Looking for some help please. I have a 2012 R1200GS Adventure and in the past have run it down to 16 miles remaining and it was still running fine. A couple of months ago it cut out at 20 miles to go. I put the side stand down and rocked the bike back and forth a few times onto the side stand and sloshed fuel across from the right side of the tank. It fired straight up and I trundled off to the garage where it only took 26 litres to fill ithe 34 litre tank to the brim. It happened again yesterday at 38 miles to go. I don’t need telling to fill up sooner or any other smart comments please, I’d just like to know how to fix it so that it will actually consume all the petrol before running out. Thanks.

was some post a few months back - some weird secondary pump that uses vacuum or something to move across to the side with the pick up

had a silly name - I guess its misbehaving

I have come across (but not on this bike) of what they called a "jet pump" which uses the flow of fuel (perhaps the return) through a jet to generate suction, and that suction is used to pull the fuel from the right side over to the left side. My guess would be that the pipe has fallen off the "jet pump".

Yap, what botus mentioned. That would be first thing to check.

Had this. The “sucking jet pump” system that uses fuel delivery pressure to drive a Venturi gets weaker over time due to a worn fuel supply pump inside the tank.

I removed the fuel pump assembly and fitted an aftermarket pump made by Quantum for the GSA as the stock pump is usually getting tired once past 36k.

I also drilled out the internal mesh filter and added an external mahle replaceable high pressure fuel filter element as per the 1150 models.

If you search the Hexhead section for fuel pump mods you should find the thread…..here you go:

Thanks everyone, I’ve found some other posts on this since I posted. I’ll go down your suggested route Pukmeister as it’s now passed 102,000 miles and probably tired.

Be aware, the hidden internal filter is basically a moulded mesh screen in a “middle chamber” inside the pump housing.

It’s staggered/offset, so you have to drill from both top and bottom separately to do the mod, you can’t just drill straight through.

If you drill too deep and burst through the opposite side, you’ll be in the shit as you’ll then need a new pump housing.

Be sure to read the entire thread I linked to and understand it fully before you go drilling any holes.
