Subject says it all really :)

This morning I took the freshly charged battery back to the bike, disconnected, cleaned and re-connected all the various electrical connections in the area above the engine (including the brain connection) and re-installed the fuel tank.

Ignition on, in neutral, turned it over & a few moments later it was running!

Tick-over's way too high, so the new cables need adjusting properly, but at the moment the engine is draining oil out and waiting for me to come back, refill the oil, install new oil filter & do the valves. After that I'll start it again, adjust the tick-over and balance the throttle assemblies.

Hoo-bleedin'-rah!

As you've removed the tank to remove tha battery make sure the throttle cables are seated properly before you adjust your tick over as they may of dislodged. There are threads relating to this.

I've found also that re-fitting the sump plug helps reduce oil consumption/loss :augie

Don't. I was once heading down towards Mansfields at Cadwell (not on the Beemer) when the GSX-R in front of me produced clear evidence his sump plug had abandoned ship. All the way round Mansfields, up the Mountain and through Hall Bends. Crikey, what a mess :-( :blast
