This happened on my 09 GSA and now it's starting to happen on my 11 GSA. Has anybody experienced similar rust or flaking of the coating inside the rear hubb. BMW are saying that it's an isolated case until I reminded them I had the same thing on my 09 GSA and they offered to fix it!!

yes, most gs,s have this , and if you keep the bike long enough it will turn in to a rotten ball of dirt, and dont even think of asking bmw to do any thing about it
you will get no joy there, there has been cases where where freinds of mine have complained of such, and bmw have come back to them with photo,s from this site, saying what do you expect you drive through rivers on it :eek

i can post photo,s of my rusty hole if you like :D

Got rust inside my hole too (ooer missus) but I just put it down to age and the bike had a hard life before I got it I think.

Maintenance works. Try spraying WD40 or similar in and running a cloth back and forth through your rusty hole before it rusts.

Or is that just me, an ex-Guzzi owner?

:rob

Get some wire wool and polish the inside of the shaft to get rid of the rust. Takes about 10 minutes. Not much you can do about it except keep on top of it :thumb

Thanks for all the replies :thumb

I think I have enough information about all your rusty holes to give me knightmares

The bike has got one more life and then it's off to triumph :hide

Genuine question:

The hollow axle is uncoated mild steel; it will rust.

When you guys have had it 'fixed' by MBW what did they do :nenau If they fitted a new one surely that also rusted :nenau

Can't say it's something that's ever bothered me but each to their own
