anyone know what paint to use to re-spray crash bars. they are silver, but i am struggling to find a match?? i wanted to just sand back the rust spots prime and respray in situ??
silver smoothrite spray is a really good match, just done my fork legs, fork brace and rear carrier thingy. Just make sure you spray fairly light coats 'cos otherwise it runs and looks rubbish.
No primer needed but a good idea is to buy some Hammerite or any enamel thinners and 'wash' the area with it first to remove anything that might cause the paint to not adhere. Allow the thinners to evaporate off.
Get a bowl of warm water and stand the spray can it for a few minutes. Enamel paints are much thicker than cellulose, this will help to speed up the mixing in the can when you do the shaking the tin bit.
As said before, thin coats, don't be tempted to cover the surface too soon. Encourage the paint to cure with a hotair-gun or hair dryer (drier for Droopy!).
