A week ago I bought an August 2005 F650 Dakar with just over 4000 miles on the clock. The bike is in very good overall condition. However, I've just noticed that the spoke nipples are going rusty. Surely, this should not happen on a bike this old and with that low a mileage. I also have another F650 GS, which is 03 and 41000 miles on the clock (which incidentally is for sale) and that has no signs of rust, in fact the nipples are of stainless steel. The nipples on the newer Dakar are of plated steel. Surely this must be a cost cutting exercise on the part of BMW, which in my opinion is a retrograde penny pinching exercise. Has anyone out there had a similar experience and since there is seven months warranty left on the bike, do I stand a chance in making a warranty claim. Your views please.
