Rythmic noise when moving- 2010 F800GS

Hello collective ukgser! I wondered if someone might have an idea.

I have a rythmic noise coming from around (I think) the clutch area, or at least the general engine area. It increases with engine speed, I can hear it basically in first and second gear, then with wind speed I can't hear it past that. It's not chain and sprockets. The noise stops if i pull the clutch in, comes straight back when clutch is engaged.

Due to the noise, and it needing it anyway, I recently replaced clutch plates/springs, but the noise remains.

Cam chain perhaps? Anyone had this before?

quick Google search…. Applies to cars but possible?

How about checking the free play in the clutch cable ?

Fair play, thanks ! I'm not on the ai train yet, but hadn't had anything specific come up on google searches.

IIRC these are semi-dry sump engines, so the gears are lubricated with oil pumped from an integral sump area. This avoids the power loss from spinning the crankshaft in a bath of oil, as we see with wet sump designs, but it also leads to a fairly noisy gear train, which of course ceases to spin when you pull the clutch. I guess it could be a GB bearing on it's way, maybe behind the drive sprocket, but probably no more than just a whooshing rhythmic noise from the gear train.

Personally, I wouldn't worry too much at present, just make sure the oil level is correct. You don't mention mileage, or when the bike was last serviced, but if it continues to trouble you, or worsens materially, it may be worth having an oil analysis undertaken at the next oil change.
