Safari randomly openning on a Mac

I've a Macbook Air and used Safari in the past, but trying out Firefox as it has the ability to put Facebook in some sort of magic box that limits ability to track everything. All going well, other than Safari keeps starting up when closed. I've made sure Firefox is the default browser, Safari always opens up the last page accessed, I've changed this to check and definatly the last page, so not page dependent.

Any clues?

When exactly does Safari start up?

Is it when you restart the computer or when you click a link such as this one?

I can't say, but it's not when opening a link. I've noticed it when I've been away from the laptop for a while/hours, fire it up and see that Safari is open in the Doc bar.

Ah, OK.

Sounds like you've maybe just got Safari 'pinned' to the dock then.

If you hit 'control' and click on it in the dock and go to 'options' you should be able to untick it from "keep in dock" and also from "open at login" if it's selected.

Seems to have stopped, unpinned Safari from the doc. Thanks for the help
