Saint Quentin France

I'll second that :thumb2

A good spot for an overnight stop, just to take a chunk out of France the evening before heading south or to break a journey heading north.

Sadly it's just a bit too far to be useful to me if I catch an evening train over, the damned lost hour (thank you Scotland) screwing it up, or I'd use it more.

Just stopped at the www.hotel-le-florence.fr really good Hotel secure parking gate locked at night, only €52 Euros for a twin room + €6.50 for breakfast

Agreed its a good place to stop for a night and about 1.5 hours from the channel tunnel port maybe a bit less. Hotel is clean and tidy and has a lovely French vibe to it. Plus a few pubs in the main square about 200 metres away. Am staying there again in july.

That's useful to know. Away with my son next week for 10 days in France. We are always wondering where to stop the evening before catching the train back.:thumby:

Le Florence is a regular first or last night stop for us. Brilliant value, parking and location :)

Thumbs up from me as well. Even let me park the RT under the courtyard archway as heavy rain was forecast when we stayed there last year. Loved the very french feel. Look for the ancient plate warming radiator in the breakfast room. If a light sleeper ask for a room at the back.

Excellent, stopped there last night another bite into France this time in my smart car, yes I like the plate warmer also.

From the number of posts from Tossers who stay there on a regular basis and who all recommend the place, perhaps the hotel should be awarded a "Friends of Tossers' and a "Highly recommended by Tossers".

Spookily we are booked in there in a couple of weeks time en route back from the Alps.

Any recommendations for evening meal or take it at the hotel?

La Troubadour seems highly rated on trip advisor and is just round the corner by the looks of it. Not sure the hotel does evening meals:nenau

Last year we ate at le Rouget Noir. The mrs had Steak Tartare and though it was really good if you are into that sort of thing.

Quite a few good restaurants in the square not very far from the hotel.

If you want to go bit further the hotel St Vincent in Laon is OK. Handy parking and an inexpensive restaurant (often with bands). Close to the autoroute too.

Ive stopped there 3 times , its the best!! fantastic staff !! last time l went, they got me a beer .I said got Kornberg ? Yes !! its waiting in the fridge !! Plenty of cafes etc just round the corner in the square !!

I was there again a few weeks back

secure parking round the back (the hotel is deceptive large considering the front).

not sure why theyve put a giant sand pit in the square...

Whilst there are lots of reasonably priced restaurants up on the main square, I noticed that there is quite a good Italian restaurant built into the same block as the hotel.

It's bang on the corner, to the right of the hotel, when viewed from the front.

It was very busy last Saturday night, for sure. So, it might be worth booking a tabe if you have a larger group.

Chez Mario.
