Hi All
Anyone planning a ride on the Plains in April? There's a few of us heading to The HUMM2015 and a day on the Plains would be a good intro for us, and a few more if anyone else is interested? Anyone interested in leading us astray? we'll pay for your fuel and lunch if you need an incentive!
Cheers

Great news James, thanks - I'm happy to buy you lunch and fuel - in return for helping me pick up my bike at the inevitable drops! I suspect finding a mutually convenient date for us all will be fun so how about you tell me when you're free and we'll work around you? I'm guessing most of us would want to avoid Easter weekend 3-6 April? :nenau

I'm free most Sunday every month lol, but am happy to organize for 12th if that's good for you? Also it would be good to chat before hand so I can sort out a good route that is not to hard/easy for everyone, and don't worry we will probably be even on the helping picking bikes up front lol mine loves to lay down in the mud lol.

I'm in. I live near Tidders, on the plain most weekends with the dog, (even found human remains the other week, was in the paper and everything) but only taken the bike out on it a few times. I will be on my old tourances though as I am saving the new boots till nearer the big trip unless you tell me I am wasting my time of course. Otherwise, count me in.

Who's bones were they Pete?

Who's bones were they Pete?

They were ancient, a badger had dug them up by the look of it. Looked like an adult and a young person to me. The policeman reckoned it might have been a plague pit as he was picking up the bones for a closer look!!! Interesting all the same. The next day the story turned up in the local papers. Shows how well connected the police are with local media.

No it wouldn't be a waste off time, I can sort out a route that avoids the mud or has a route round the bad bits lol, iv only got a mitas e07 on rear so not best off road 😁 and we will try not to disturb the dead I promise,
What have you got for your trip to Morocco?

I'm going for Heindenau K60 Scouts. A friend in the know who has been many times swears by them. I have also read you get incredible miles out of them as well and because i will be riding all the way down will be a bonus.

They are a good tyer my stepdad had them on for a 2000 mile Spain/France trip with lots of off road and they had another 200 miles left in them I had Karoo 3's and they had about 200 left lol

Are you saying the tyre only has about 2000 miles in it?? this could be a problem! :blast

No sorry my bad didnt read my post properly they had 2000 left, he got about 4500 out off them with 2000 off them being a fully loaded bike

Tourances should be fine, I had them fitted when we did a days ride all of which was on gravel byways, unless you stray onto the muddy edge and lose the front wheel like I did - doh! :blast

I would be up for this but I don't get back to the UK until the 7th. Been a while since I was last up there though.

I'm near Hedge End (Southampton) so not far away. I use to do a lot of green laning and ride the plains a lot but not recently and not on my GS.

That's cool, the gs is a bit off a different animal off road compared to the small bikes but still capable lol.

Salisbury Plain Ride Out - Sun 12 April 2015

Speedfour4 (James)

Just thinking ahead, where would you normally meet before a rideout?
The last (and first) time i went out, we met at the café just south of Burbage on the A338 (see here) which did a cracking breakfast! I think it's pretty central to the Plains and we seemed to cover it all off during the day - although I have no idea exactly where we went!!

If anyone else fancies joining us please drop me or Speedfour4 a msg.

Cheers

Bazzer

Looks good to me I'm happy to meet there, who can say no to a good breakfast lol, and having a starting point means I can sort the route out better to.
What time do you want to head out?

James
