Salisbury Plain -April

Looks good to me I'm happy to meet there, who can say no to a good breakfast lol, and having a starting point means I can sort the route out better to.
What time do you want to head out?

James

James - How about meet at 9.30am for brekkie and aim to leave about 10ish for a ride - stop for sandwich lunch at a garage on the Plains and finish about 2.30 - 3pm? I might even bring a brew kit - just in case we come across a copse I may have bivvied in during my fond TA days!

Bungy - I think we'll be sticking to the gravel byways and will be taking it easy so our R1200 GS should be OK, even if you've just come back from the Sandpit!

Cheers

Meeting times sounds good, and yea we will be sticking to mostly gravel but there will be places for anyone who feels a bit more adventurous to get muddy lol, and I'm happy for people to use my bike if they dont have the tyres but want to practise in mud/water.
Brew kit?? I think you mean wets kit lol

James

Brew Kits fine, don't forget the cofftea ;)

The plain has dried up a lot in the last few weeks. There is always a bit of mud of you know where to look but I'm sure my tyres will manage in any case. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us like today.

It was good and iv got a nice easy (ish) route planned lol, although I did put a hole in my rocker cover after ripping the cover off but am repairing it now, is there anyone who has done no off road before?

Looks like there's just me and GS Traveller that'll be out on the Plains. I've been once before so still a novice (I don't like mud!) and Pete knows the Plains quite well but not sure how much 'off road' he's done - care to comment Pete?

Mark

Thats fine I will avoid the muddy lanes, I have had enough off muddy lanes already this year lol, we will just go by what you feel happy doing just hope it drys up

I will go with the flow. Still debating whether to fit my new tyres yet or not. I don't fancy shredding my new rubber on the stones though but my tourances aren't going to be a whole lot of fun in their current state. I might have to recce it myself beforehand.

I have done off road on a small scrambler but the GSA is heavy so not sure, I will come and see how I get on.

I have just been up there with a complete novis on a tiger-xc on tourances and he did ok in this weather but did a very very easy route, iv never had a issue with stones killing my tyers lol. If you have been on small bikes you should be fine just heavier to pick up

I don't plan to drop it.....;)

There is a good chance I won't be able to make it on Sunday now unfortunately. Fresh from the trail fixes course and full of confidence I set about changing my tyres over the weekend. I now wish I hadn't bothered. What a :censor: nightmare that was. I now have one trashed rim and a spanking new tyre with a bead ruptured sat in my garage on a GS that is currently next to useless. Tried to refit the old tourance as well and ruptured that bead as well.

I am now waiting for another new tyre to arrive at which point I shall be visiting a man who can because I clearly cannot! Hasn't even been dispatched yet so unlikely to be here until after the weekend. If it happens to turn up any sooner, I'll let you know. Have fun!

Pete - I cant believe you actually confessed to all of that! Let me know if you want to borrow my very expensive tyre levers!!!

Team - may I propose that the first round at Palencia is on Pete!!

Hi, I will be at the café 9.30ish (about an hours ride for us, so be patient :), two of us on XR400's. We'll do a few lanes and then see how it goes, don't want to pressurise anyone.

I'll be there. Tyres arrived today, phew!

And thanks for the sympathy there Mark, appreciated. It's a good job I'm not precious about my bike.

Sorry Pete, was intended as just a bit of inter-Service banter :friday, glad to hear it's all sorted and you'll be able to make it on Sunday, I'll need all the hands I can get to help me pick up my bike throughout the day! :blast
