All very impromptu, here's the outline.

Oldrat identified that Sammy Miller's is having an Italian bike day this Sunday, so we're both heading off to that. https://sammymiller.co.uk/event/italian-bike-day/

As we're going to be in that neck of the woods and as the weather looks peachy, why not go down on the Saturday, have a chilled ride and camp in the New Forest, have a bit of an evening, and then ride to Miller's on Sunday for the event?

Sounds like a bit of a plan.

Ok the detail (there's not much)!

Because it's summer, all the NF camp sites will be open, but will be busy so will require a full weekend booking if we book in advance. So rather than pay for 2 nights when only one might be needed, the plan is to call a few sites on Saturday morning and find one with capacity for the Saturday evening. If we fail at that, there is always the Seven Stars at Wool where they have acres of space, and they always seem pleased to see us. https://sevenstars.co.uk/ We'll choose somewhere camper-van friendly.

A Whatsapp group of potential attendees would be alerted early on Sat morning once the venue is confirmed.

Saturday night can be pub grub or possibly a BBQ (we'll probably have the kit for that) and definitely a few beers and a chat. We could even have a live video call with our mates at Sid's to see how they are doing!

If you're at a loose end this weekend and this currently sounds like the least bad idea, let us know and then DM myself with your mobile number so you can be added to a Whatsapp group for the event. Because we're not really booking anything, there's no obligation even if you change plans on the day.

Anyone up for a mini-mini-adventure?

As an fYI, i was in the New Forest last weekend and the Gypsies were still around - causing chaos with their Horses on the roads around Lyndhurst. So may be worth checking the Campsites aren't too close to their encampments.

Thanks for that Joe. Seems it's a 2 day event, based in Lyndhurst and travelling to Balmer Lawn (Brock). Hopefully all over by now.

I stayed in the NF near Fordingbridge last weekend, Pikeys were mostly departing last Sunday lunchtime with Nags and buggies towed behind them so I think and hope all their horsing about has finished (Bloody arrogant scum, good riddance.)

I might be free Saturday evening to pop over for a few hours on the GSA unless the missus has other plans, Paul I'll drop you my number by PM for the Whatsapp group.

Excellent
That’s a possible maybe could-be, 4 of us.

I’ve been checking out camping locations to be checked out nearer the time

Fingers crossed

Hi all - any more takers for this under-the-radar mini getaway?

I will be calling early on Saturday morning to make our reservation. So far it will be for

Oldrat - campervan
DJ123 - vehicle plus tent?
Moi - m/cycle plus tent

the location will ideally be (in order of preference)

New Forest camp site such as Holmsley, Hollands Wood etc
Private camp site in the NF such as Hurst View, Harry's etc
A pub-type location outside the forest

All very welcome, just shout so the reservation can be made, and so that we get the food right if we're BBQ-ing.

Cheers,

P

Paul,

I would have loved to have joined you and would have done so had I not just been released from hospital. I need to concentrate on getting well as my trip next weekend to Gedinne for the classic bike racing is very much in doubt. Out of interest is this a one off or an annual event?

I think it’s a one off, spur of the moment, let’s doooooo it, kinda thing.

That said, I’m sure there’ll be more……

Yep, all of that.

Sun is shining, it’s the flimsiest reason imaginable to justify getting away, riding the bike, camping, sitting around the fire and enjoying the craic with likeminded ne’er do wells.

Greatest respect to my companions…. Of course! 😂

But as someone recently said, you’ll never get today again.

As Richard says, there will be more, and long may that last. 👍

I wish you a speedy recovery and hope you make Gedinne.

That was a fabulous event and thoroughly worthwhile. Thanks guys for making it happen.

I have started a new thread for pics.

Got a link, mate?
