Since that tablet evidently has a GPS chip (they don't all have one) then I suggest you run an app called SpeedOverlay which lets you put a floating GPS speedo readout positioned wherever you want on that large display. I used to run that together with a phone based satnav app until I got a bike with TFT.

If it is the Brodit mount they don't fair well long term with water and stop charging. If water gets in the USB port it won't charge. The screen also hates rain and it will go hay wire confusing water droplets with touch.

I use mine for greenlaning so I have a large clear map in eyeline that's the only good thing about it.

I meant to ask you, what tablet & mount are you using ?

I used a Nexus 7 in a watertight case, (well amost) i have to have a small opening at one side to let the power cable in .

It was fine until it ran out of power, and the only reason it ran out i think, was that the DIN USB power plug wasnt making a good connection in the socket.

I'm tempted to try it again next year, either for Dent, or Strontian

Ive used Brodit stuff before, there car mount stuff is first class, bit surprised that the tablet unit is not so good

This is an 8 inch Samsung galaxy tab active water proof takes a sim card so you can use it as a phone works with gloves on and works in the rain.
I use this mounting block direct onto the accessory bar this also bolts direct to the holder so it’s all nice and flush.

Fred thanks for the Speedo overlay tip that will be very useful.
The mounts that have power built in I have read can have connection issues when used on a bike so this set up takes power from a usb lead into the tablet.
I have still not road tested it yet and may need to modify the holder a little to improve stability if vibration is an issue but it fits the cockpit very well.

The tablet is a samsung activ tab T365 I think.

The problem is two fold. I used the mount with 12v cigarette lighter despite wrapping it up in an inner tube and tape water still got in. There are 3 charge points on the side of the tablet the Brodit mount picks up after a while I noticed the battery still running down despite showing a power feed I think water got in the mount.

So I've gone back to usb, not with out it's own water problems. It's only because it makes such a bloody good green lane navigation solution I put up with the draw backs.

I wouldn't recommend it.

For my other bike I'll be using a phone and water proof case. Again not perfect but will solve the rain on the screen issue.

Have you used a wunderlinq with your mount ??
I did , and TBH , gained nothing , other than being able to use the duplicated Nav options

the large speedo was nice , but all the othr bits , meh

Music was via my phone The maps at the time i used the WL wern't supported, so the whiz wheel was effectively redundant

When i went back to a non whiz wheel bike i sold the WL as it was redundant
