In September we are booked on the Portsmouth to Santander Ferry, which is scheduled to arrive at 17:30, having never stayed in rural Spain I am hoping the more experienced of you would advise if it is reasonable to ride to Hotel del Oso - Areños 5, 39587 Camaleño, Cantabria and still get an evening meal ?

According to google maps the hotel is 1 hr 46, 119 kms from the ferry terminal

Does it take very long to get out of the ferry and terminal ?

Thanks

Spain in general has a much 'later' evening economy that we do so you should be fine; having said that, if it's St Pubicus day (or any other excuse) everywhere will be shut and you'll be told to feck off !

Well they won't starting serving dinner until 21.00 so you should be ok, they eat late in Spain it is not uncommon to be eating at midnight especially on a Saturday night

You will be fine Buddy, done similar a few times and still been early for dinner. As said previously they eat a lot later over there.
Hope you have a great time and stay safe

i checked the Spanish holidays and I think we are OK

Have you been to that hotel ?

Ferry potentially, sometimes quicker than others (your in the bowels) - terminal no, once clear of passport control, your straight out on to the Motorway A67 - A8 for Oviedo and then National 621 in to the Picos.

When you arrive, still time for a couple of beers before they light the grill - as stated previously, they eat late!

Why don't you just email the Hotel Oso direct?

Ask them

From memory when I stayed there, dinner didn't start until 9pm

What date are you traveling? My wife is doing same journey on foot to meet me in Santander (me already on bike).

Then were touring Northern Spain for a week.

I'm going in the next month. Arriving 12:15 and hoping to make Leon, going via Potes. Not done it before, so is that achievable ?

About 160 miles. Once off the motorway, it's twisty up through Potes and beyond. Maybe allow 4/5 hours

Fantastic hotel. Dinner starts at 9pm and finishes late. Food is great and there is piles of it. One of my all time favourite hotels. Just don't trip over the giant St Bernard's at the door if it is dark.

All depends on if your ferry docks at the time it's scheduled.

The "Bay" can play havoc with ferry timings. I was once on a ferry that docked 6 hours late :D

Indeedy; my mate was on the Pont-Aven that had the lounge indows put in by a feckin great big wave; driver turned left and went to Roscoff !

You should have no problem with the food. The sandwiches should be first class...............Hotel Oso translates in English to Hotel Bear.

That St Bernard is a walking slobbering machine, you'll more likely slip than trip.
Top hotel, top food... and wow, those sisters! :bow

Just a tip ...for others that may be booking the hotel and Brittany ferry route.... A couple of ships are used ( similar pricing) . Take care , some do not go directly to SNR, they stop in France en-route. Try for a direct routing on the Pont Aven ( flagship) it's newer than the other offerings!
I'm also heading out mid -Sept, to that hotel.

What's the problem Stuart, with a stop off in France en route?
