Ok then, ive just booked the ferry to Santander for the end of june for a nice 3 week tour, i am now in the planning stages and intend heading for a friends villa near ALBOX for a few days (which is about 60 miles North East of Malaga) before heading along the coast towards Barcelona to take in the Moto GP at Catalunya on the 4th July. Then a nice leisurley ride back towards Santander.

Does anyone have a good route from Santander towards Malaga? , i intend taking about 3 - 4 days to get there and will be camping on route, i dont want to use the motorways and will hopefully be travelling the more sedate quiet roads, anyone got any suggestions for route and good campsites on route.

Thanks in advance :thumb

Here you go....

Santander to Riano (lovely road through the Pico's)
Riano to Guadalupe
Guadelupe to Rhonda
Rhonda to Malaga (not on the above site but there are a couple of cracking routes)

Easy in 3 days.

Campsites all over the place.

Be aware, although some Spanish campsites are good, some are rubbish.
All lot of sites work on the stack 'em high principle and the gap between pitches can be a LOT less than what would be considered normal for the UK.
Either give yourself time to turn away and seek other accomodation or do your research.

Just check in to viamichelin.com and head for the roads edged in green. As someone else has pointed out Albox is 210 miles virtually due East of Malaga so the logical route takes you east of Madrid as you head South. However, the route West of Madrid could take you through the Gredos Mountains and Avila down to Talavera de la Reina and from there to Cordoba. The N502 to Herrera del Duque is a spectacularly nice road and from there you follow the N502 through Almaden to join the N432 to Cordoba. From Cordoba take the A4 Autovia to Ecija and follow the A351 to Osuna the A451/MA 7404/MA 6401 through Canete de Real to pick up the A367 to Ronda. At Ronda you pick up the A397 to Marbella and the coast. You will have read about the Ronda to Marbella road in countless road tests. On a bike it really is as good as they say.

That's the way to do it..... Maps, a great place to start..... People used to kill each other for maps.....

Do yourself a favour ...

... call in at Segovia and then cut across to Avila and head south on the D502 (?) One of the finest uncluttered roads I have ever been on; 391kms with lots of sweeping constant radius turns, no drains, good surface, worth making the trip just for that road.

Thanks for the replies, il start planning now! , :thumb

Yes it's the N502 which takes you from Avila past Talavera and down to Cordoba albeit with the last bit on the N432.

Extemadura

Avila - Sierra de Gredos - Trujillo has great roads.

Be sure to take a look at the main square in Trulillo - home of Pizarro, built with the gold of the Inca's.

Thanks , just the type of info and recomendations i was after:thumb
