Santander to Marbella

Getting the ferry to Santander and then down to Marbella.
Looks like a straight north-south run past Madrid.
Google maps is saying;
A67 then E80 to Tordesillas
A6 to Madrid
The A4, A44 to Granada (isn't that a tv station ?)
The A92 to Malaga, Marbella.

Anyone done it ?
Is it as dull as it looks ?
Is there a better route without taking forever ?

I'm thinking 2 days with a stop around Madrid....does this sound fair ?

Going around the start of November (dates are flexible) if anyone fancies a travelling companion ?

Any help gratefully received.

I did Santander to Huelva in March/April this year and yes its a very boring ride, Make sure you find a hotel with underground secure parking as you will have to park on the street otherwise, you could tke the route to Salamanca and down to Seville and then accross, either way its a bum ache.

Two days is easy, I've done it in one. I quite like that route even though it's all motorway. November could be cold though, the motorway north of Madrid is higher than Ben Nevis

The other option, via Salamanca, Toledo, Cordoba, Seville and Ronda has some fantastic biking roads. It's better than anywhere else in Europe, smooth tarmac, great twisties and no traffic.

Stayed here last year

We were in a car and on our way south to Marbella. Cuenca is close to Madrid. The setting is awesome. We approached the town for the east, across the Sierra Universidad. They were fantastic roads with little traffic.

I've ridden this route many times.

Quite easy in one go but if I fancy a stop I usually go to the Hotel Sol in Toledo. Toledo is a historic town and well worth a visit. The hotel is right on the edge of the 'old town', clean, reasonably priced and has an underground garage.

Bypass Madrid and either go to Toledo or Avila if you feel you must stop. With that route you could do it in a day (I have 3 times both directions).

Take the country road over the hills to Burgos from Santander for best views / twisties.

I'd prefer to take the westerly route through Salamanca if I was going to stop as the roads are fast and nice views - best of the weather will be there too!

Down via Sevilla then Ronda to San Pedro (best road in the area - but high and possibly cold / icy in Nov), left at the coast and you're in Marbella!
