First off I'm only 42 and they never hurt before I got this bike with Sargent seats.

Has anyone ever had their hips hurt from the different seating position? I'm in bloody agony constant discomfort.

Just curious. I'm 6"4' BTW.

Try adjusting the height settings. Ie one high one low. This will switch the position of your hips

Do you mean the hip itself or the very lower back (upper arse) above the hip? If the latter yes, I've suffered that on a bike (it's what caused me to sell my then 6-month-old '06 1200GS) - it was sciatica associated with a slipped disk I'd suffered a couple of years earlier. Anything more than 20 minutes on the bike became increasingly painful - not good on a 1 hour commute.

Possibly non-medical remedies are changing the bar position to tip your upper body forward/back (changes the part of your backside that takes your upper body weight), changing the bars for alternative ones (higher/lower/different pull-back etc), fitting bar risers/bar-backs, trying a different seat, different seat height or different seat angle (high at the front, low at the rear).

If you've ridden similar bikes before with standard seats and not had a problem I'd suggest trying a standard seat on your bike - that may well solve the problem. Not all seats suit all people. Loads complain about the standard one but I have no problem with it.

It is certainly the hips.

I'll check out the seat and see if I can adjust its position. I'll try and find a standard seat for comparison too. Shame really, it's a fabulous looking seat!

Good idea regarding the bars. I think I'll adjust that first. Cheers.

I'm hoping it's just muscle strain from a new postion. Blood agony sitting in my office chair today too. Ho hum. I'll faff about with it and take ponston for the wild atlantic way in a few weeks if necessary...

I had a Corbin on a Yamaha 900 and found it upset my hips and rubbed into my thigh. It also made it harder reach the floor so I went back to standard Yamaha seat.
I tried a Sergent for the GSA but it immediately dug into my thigh so I never bothered to road test it.

I suspect the pan seat isn't so good with a forwards handlebar position. But a bolt upright torso (especially lower back) gets hammered by UK roads. I prefer to be leaning forwards and find the Kahedo/Toratech seats suit me very well. Shame about the cost.

Mmm. I think I'll try and borrow a seat here in Ireland off one of the lads and see what that's like. I presume that the fitments are the same on the bike end? Or do i assume too much!!!

No ya maggot, it's holding me back from that! Maybe I just need a bit of WD40!

I love getting a new bike. So much to explore. No og, that is not a euphemism!

Had a look at the seat and I've altered the seat position. Clever n it's design. I'll see how that works for me. Might be the answer.

I'm 59 years old & have had both hips replaced. First one at 38, second done at 40. Having a few problems again. Over the past year l've started an exercise regime. Targeting the following muscle groups. Gluteus, adductors & abductees. It definitely helps. Worth while in my opinion. A good tip would be to arrange a consultation with a physio.

I hate to say it buy exercise might be what's needed. The change in seat position has helped somewhat but I think I am still suffering from ligament stretch. I went to the doctor...

I'll be tweeking the bars angle soon and I'm off on a tour of the wild atlantic way next Monday. I've a bit of non bike time in Barcelona first. Awful life I have. Just awful!

With respect. Visiting the Doctor for muscular skeleton problems is bit of a hit or miss. From experience, a good physio will sort things out with a few sessions plus valuable advise on stretches & exercises to eleviate the problem.
Good luck & enjoy your trip.
