For the purpose of this exercise this is how the test was conducted:
The bike was taken off the main and side stand and was leant up against the garage wall, making sure that it was square to the floor.
A 3' spirit level was then placed arcoss each seat so that it was perfectly level.
Next, take a quote from the Sargent web site:
Available in two heights:
This table shows the different heights and the OEM seat height:
OEM seat
LOW VERSION : 33.5" / HIGH VERSION 35.1" (to 02) 35.4" (03 on)
Sargent seat
LOW VERSION 33.0" / HIGH VERSION 34.5"
In other words the Sargent seats are about 1/2" lower than the OE seats.
Well after doing my tests this does not seem to be the case. My GSA is a 2004/2005 bike, the std grey/red seat height is 35.1" According to the Sargent site it should be 35.4", ok no big deal to be honest.
BUT, they state that the OE low seat is 33.5", well I can assure you that it is not, its actually 34".
Next they state that the low seat is 33", nope......sorry its not! It measures exactly the same as the OE low one, how about that then?
In any case, their latter statement, "in other words the Sargent seats are about 1/2" lower than OE seats".
34" take away 33" (claimed dimensions) is errrrr.....1"
I am lucky enough to have all three seats in which to do the measurements, and I can assure you that I have treble checked the results.
Please don't get me wrong I am not slagging the seat nor the company off, I just need to establish the facts coz I am a tosser
The seat really is a work of art, and it fits my lardy arse like a glove.
