Been using the Sargent seat for a week now and basically has been the best cash that I have spent on the bike, the difference from the lowered standard seat is like night and day.

I ordered the front seat and got the back cover for £33.Took the cover into a small upholstery shop and they put it on in 10 mins at a cost of £8, looks good for a small amount of cash, went this way as the wife does not go on the back of the bike, basically looks just the same as the full seat

Been riding GS's since 05. Just bought a Sargent seat 4 weeks ago - should have done it ages ago.:clap 300 miles in a day no probs. Tried a Kahedo but did not get on with it.:(
Just need to try some bar risers now to ease the ache between my shoulders(never had it with my 05 GS)

Hi everyone!

Just bought a Sargent front seat for my 1200GS and I am wondering in which positions should I place the seat.

Does anyone with a Sargent seat uses it in the position 'high' in front and 'low' in the back? Is there any advantages in doing so? (I am just asking beacuse with the standard GS seat loads of people does so, including myself).

Any tips will be much appreciated! Cheers!:thumb

Front only or both a must

As most after a full day of riding, towards the end of the day i start twisting and sliding around on my seat trying to find a more cumfy way to sit, and after about 4 days im walking around like john wayne:tears, So im thinking of buying a sargent seat ,do you have to buy both or does the std reat fit with the sargent front
or does it fit but look sh-te!
only askin because rear seat very rarely gets used and seems a lot of cash to spend on something if its not going to get any use.

Or is there another option that i dont know about?

Ps dont say just leave the seat off :augie

Reading some of the views on here it seems to be a good buy ,!

Sargent offer a matching cover for the rear seat at only £33.01 which a local upholsterer could fit for you over the existing rear seat cover or you could do it yourself-I did on my last bike,it looks the part and matches the front seat exactly,a cheap option to obtain "the look" ;)

My bike was ordered and bought with a BMW low seat. I could reach the floor OK but it was like riding on a house brick.

After 6 months I switched back to the standard BMW seat. More comfortable, but now reaching the floor (even on the low setting) was a real struggle. This was beginning to shake my confidence when parking the bike in awkward corners as I couldn't sit on it and walk it backwards.

I have just bought the Sargent low seat, which does have 2 settings, but on the low my reach to the floor is just about the same as the BMW low. It does claim to be a bit lower than the BMW low, but it is more padded and therefore a bit wider, so no overall advantage to the floor.

But, it is more comfortable than the BMW standard seat by a fair way, and doesn't tip you towards the tank. So win, win for me:thumb

PS Ordered Monday night and received Friday morning from NN (but I did phone first to check it was in.)

sargent seat

many thanks looks like i,ll be ordering the sargent low seat gary

Had the BMW low seat on my 08 1200 for 15 months.Could touch the ground ok but the long trips my backside went dead!!

I've had the Sargent low seat for a week now and the comfort is amazing.I wish I had treated myself 15 months ago.Must say I haven't had a long trip yet about 120miles is the most but seems perfect!

Although it's a tad lower than the BMW low version I cannot say I there seems any difference in leg reach as the Sargent is a tad wider.

Hope the above helps.

I suffer from sore bottom after riding most bikes for a while - perhaps need to lose some weight but thats another matter! Seen a number of posts about Sargent seats and all have been positive. The thing is I like my red/black stock looking seat more than the look of the Sargent seat. Spoke to an upholsterer who does bike seats. Says she can reshape the foam or even change the foam altogether to a softer one. Is this a worthwhile route to go down or will I always have problems with my stock seat? On the plus side I could still keep my stock colours for the bike! Open to suggestions!

Sargent pillion seat

Does anyone have a view on whether the sargent pillion seat is more comfortable than stock? That's important for my wife as we travel a lot together on the bike and long distances are a pain on the stock seats for both of us.

Thanks Shaun

That's good to know. The pillion on the GSA is very flat, but the Sargent pillion looks more sculpted which should be more comfortable. Also looks a bit taller at the front so I guess the pillion pass sits a bit higher? If so that's a bonus as my wife has long legs and needs to avoid legs being too bent. I am thinking of getting the Wunderlich pillion foot rest lowerers as well to give her more legroom.

Only My Opinion

This is only my opinion as seat comfort is a very subjective issue. I had a low seat on my 2009 GSA and I have never been so uncomfortable in my life. I then bought the Sargent (heated) seat pair and it was undeniably more comfortable than the original. The problem was that it still was not that comfortable.

I persevered for a couple of years but eventually I took the seat to Tony Archer who transformed it into a thing of purest joy. Tony showed me the original foam and showed me how unsupportive it was. Also the weedy heated element was removed as it had perished in places (after only 2 years - but a lot of miles).

Tony replaced the foam with a much better quality alternative and also inserted a seriously deep gel pad. Now its what the seat should always have been. Cost well.....less than £150 and he can do the same with a standard seat.

I am not being paid by Tony and he does not even know that I am writing this note. I just think people should be aware before spending tons of cash. I know were all different and we will all get a different experience even when using the same seat so, if you can, try before you buy.

Is there anyone in the Essex/London area that does the same?

What was the turn around time with Tony?

I too live in the Essex area but went to Tony Archer based on recommendations elsewhere on this forum.

He is based in Huddersfield (as you probably know already) and if you book in advance he will do it while you wait. He quotes a half day turn round but he managed to do my seat, start to finish, in 2 1/2 hours.

You may have to contact him directly about turn round times if you plan to post the seat up.

You can get him on 01484 536832
