Sargent Seat.

I thought that I would consult the collective wisdom on the site before I went and spent my hard earned.

I am thinking about a Sargent seat for my 1200 GSA as I find myself squirming after a few hours in the saddle and find that even a fuel stop or 10 minute break only improves things for a short while.
anyway, my question is what is the difference between the std Sargent and the GSA seat in terms of height and width.

I am worried that it may be lower (which is good) but also wider (hence more comfy) which might cause me a problem as I am apparently quite short in the leg.

I also understand that they do a low seat but worry this might look wrong on the adventure, does anyone have this option and what do they think .

Sorry for the 20 questions but I dont want to invest and then sell at a loss after a few weeks if I get it wrong (although I am sure plenty of peeps will take it off my hands)

Daffy, have a look at this thread. I've gone the gelastic pad route which is much cheaper but, as you will see, it's not everyone's cup of tea. Good luck

There are cheaper alternatives...

....but I can honestly say that I've never heard of anyone who's bought one having a bad word to say about them...myself included!

Once you've got past the cost....then they're the best accessory you'll put on your bike....that, and Hid's!

I just ordered a low height Sargent for my new GSA. It is supposed to arrive tomorrow so I should be able to try it out before the end of the week or over the weekend.

I ordered the Sargent because it seemed to have the best reviews and very few bad ones.

Just by the by, they have a full 7 day return policy so I'd hope that if it is not suited to my ass, I can send it back.

I am actually getting it because I'm a bit tippy-toed on the bike even though I am 5ft 10inches. Clearly my legs are a bit short.

I will post my thoughts.

And it will take me a while to get over the significant expense! May have to take the seat off when I park it up!

not measured it, but i'd say there's no difference in effective height between the two seats. the sargent is narrower at the front, so legs might reach trhe ground easier.

the real difference is in support. with the OEM seat, all the riders weight is taken on what VIZ magazine would call, the "barse" ie. the small area between balls and arse. with the sargent, weight is more widely distributed between buttocks and upper thighs.

So the decision to go the Sargent route is confirmed, now I need to decide if it is std or low?

AberdeenAngus - did I understand correct that the Low Sargent is the same as the stock seat - do you ride a GSA or are you referring to the GS stock seat?

Wapping - I guess you are on std Sargent on the GSA, do you think this is higher than the std Adv seat?

Sorry for the questions but I am leaning toward the STD Sargent seat but not if it is going to give me even shorter legs IYKWIM.

ive just bought a low sargent off this site from v nice 2 wheel humvee,its very very nice much better comfort from the second your but touches down,no long trips yet but going over the channel in june for the real test,but to be honest i cant see it failing.like others have said a good buy allround

I have a standard seat, set on the high position, on my 06 GSA.

On first couple of outings it seemed a little further to the ground. I think it is because your leg is at a very slightly different angle. That, or that the seat needed to bid in a little.

Putting Ohlins front and rear lifted the bike more.

I have the low Sargent on my 12GSA.

Very comfortable and IMHO the high setting is about the same height as the low setting on the standard seat.

I have a standard Sargent seat on my GS, and I live in Chandlers Ford.

The problem once deciding to buy a Sargent seat, is then which one to get, standard or low?...which you've now found out...exactly as I did.

I'm not overly short, or overly tall, standing at 5'11"....so on the standard Gsa seat I never really had any problems, but I couldn't get both feet flat at the same time...more a slide over to one side to get one flat (keeping the panniers on helps a bit ).

So I thought the low version might be a good option, to gain a little better footing....

....but in the end I went for the standard...and I'm glad I did

It seems to be lower than my Bmw seat sitting position (I had my STD seat on low front/high rear) although it doesn't look lower, and seems wider ...maybe it's cos it's so much more comfortable, but it's definately the right height for me.

I have a low Sargent on mine and think its great and doesnt look odd on the bike at all. There is a post in here somewhere of a pic on mine. The lower seat lets me get my feet down slightly better but not as much as I would have thought so I reckon its actually wider not narrower than stock. Not only that but at 6ft it dropped me slightly lower behind the screen so less buffeting but none of the above matters in comparison to the vast improvement in comfort.

This is my thought also as I had a low one on my 06GSA. What I did was put it on the high setting when fully loaded (don't tell the wife) and luggage etc. I would notice as she got off to pay for petrol then I would be on tiptoes and as she got back on all was restored

One thing to realise that with a lower seat comes more bent legs as the distance to the pegs is reduced and I did notice this with my 32inch legs

So high setting with pillion and low setting when solo...

I think the seat is wider at the rear of the front seat, but narrower at the front slightly.

I can get 2/3rds of both feet on the floor with a standard Sargent...I was on my toes on the standard Bmw seat.

I had the pillion sargent seat also and the best news for me is that the seat was never an issue with my wife she loved it.

I'm looking for a pillion sargent seat at the moment, managed to find a rider seat but no luck as yet in the wanted section for a pillion seat,or if someone has both for sale I would look at buying them,then move on the rider seat I've just bought.
