Received the Sargent Seat yesterday from Nippy Normans who did a great job of getting it to me well ahead of the original estimate of early June. :thumb2

Very expensive £500  so had very high expectations.

First impression were very good, well packed and very high quality so looks like £300ish before putting it on the bike.

I have a 32inch inside leg and was finding the R1200GSA just a tad tall when riding solo with all the preload wound off so I bought the Low version.

Went on the bike no problems and retains the two settings for height. Tried the high first and gave just a little extra from toes to balls of feet and then the low setting that allows almost flat footing with the preload in the standard/mid position.

We both went for a short spin, instant hit with the wife who now sits a little higher than me and gets a better view (worth about £100 :wife ) and my legs not too bent and no wind noise.
I have the touratech extension on the modified extra notch screen and 80mph was like the previous 60mph, very good but now I have to look a little bit through the screen so moved the screen down a notch and perfect compromise :clap Oh and I now sit in the bike rather than on it

So initial impressions are very good, but I think it's over priced by £100ish. We are going on a long trip very soon so will let you know how it and our nether regions hold up :o

good to hear your missus like the pillion, mine absolutely hates it. gave her a very bad back and me a very bad ear on the trip to llangollen. pity. as it's really good at keeping her from moving forward & leaning on me :spitfire

standard pad going back on for rosedale.

Thanks for the heads-up Cookie :duck: perhaps I spoke too soon, a few hundred miles will tell.

Maybe the seat is designed for these dimensions :peach:

Update - no bum ache

OK done 1700 miles with the Sargent seat with the longest trip about 270miles. All I can say is the seat got no remarks or mention from me or the wife so it does its job well :clap

VFRman.....time and distance will tell. I have this seat on my 12GS and on my 12 GSA and am very happy with it. My wife finds 3000 km rides as a pillion not a problem in the seating department. YRMV but good luck.

I'm in the difficult situation of deciding between a sargent and a kahedo.

I had a sargent on my Strom and it was really comfy. Been looking hard at the kahedo and the only bad talk about them has come from Ewan "long way down" Mcgregor moaning about how hard it was, but then I think he went for the low seat.

Is the sargent seat underneath the same as the stock gs seat can you adjust the height?

seat

I bought a Sargent Seat for my 1200 GSA. I've just returned from a 7000 mile trip around Europe and found that the seat had a tendency to restrict the blood supply to my legs. I think with the seat pad being wider, it places pressure on the top of the artery running down the inside of your leg, thus giving a numb sensation to the feet and toes, or is it just me ?

mine has a depression to fit one's arse cheeks, that means there's a raised bit at the front running under the thighs. i can easily see how this might do strange things to the blood supply to the legs.

fortunately, in my case it just felt odd when the seat was new and never developed into a problem (yet).

different arse shapes may have problems i suspect.

Recently tried one of these and had same trouble as Pedro. I could not get on with it at all. Also the pillion is raised up too much at the front according to my wife.
Have persevered with the standard seat which is on the lower setting at the back and higher at the front and it is not too bad, in fact did a couple of hundred miles on Saturday and didnt even notice it whereas I used to suffer after about a hour.

I found probs with standard seats on 1200GS when I first got the bike but found sitting on it mellowed them off so that they are not to bad. Same with GSA except these (on front) appear to be more comfortable than std GS.
Did try Gel inserts on 1150 and found them borderline waste of money.
This is one of them one mans meats another mans poison jobs I think:blast

Sargent use BMW seat fittings on their own seat bases to retain full functionality.

£500 is a joke.

particularly for an 'off the peg' seat

For that kinda money I would expect the seat to be tailored exactly to me....

I've seen recommendations on this site for a chap near Coventry who does a bespoke service... and probably for a damn site less than £500 too.

just to put that in perspective. that's probably melvyn hunter, and he used to charge £85 a seat, so that's £170 for 1 x GS. he also recovers the old base unlike sargent who sell the whole thing new for rather more. i wouldn't try and argue they're cheap, or even good value but that's what i've got & i like it (mrs hated the pillion though).

i had one of melvyns on an 1150, and after i had it redone to my spec it was very comfy indeed, possibly better than my current sargent.
