hello all , first thanks for the advise re sticking starter motors , got that one covered now , new sargent seats arrived today , (gs 1100 ) lookin good !! and will have to try them out over the w/e , only problem , i`m having difficulty getting them to sit right , the front one seems only to catch in one side with the lock and the second rear seat will not lock down at all , i`ve managed to break off a small tab at the end of the lock which did nt help , but have managed to weld back ,so tomorrow back in the shed and another try , anyone here have any similar problems with these seats or is it just my cack handed way of fitting , cheers all

seat locks front and rear are on a common plastic bar, if you get the line up wrong particularly the rear seat it can snap off leaving the rear lock moving about and not lining up with the seat, mine went and ordered new bar, not that expensive just have to fit original lock.

Hi Buzzy,
so, let us all know -what was the starter problem ?? and how'd you fix it ?
Glad you got it sorted anyhow:thumb2

Starter Problem

My 1150 refused to start yesterday morning, but thanks to this forum, it was running by last night.

Starter motor sits on the left hand side of the engine, just behind the plastic cover with the power socket by the gear shifter pedal.

It unbolts with two allen bolts from the engine, and having disconnected the battery to prevent shorts, undo the electrical wires.

You then undo the black cylinder. I think the heads of the two rivets have to be drilled off - they're very soft, and sacrificial, and undo the three remaining bolts.

You should be able to see a small cog on a shaft - drench with half a can of WD40 and clean cog, housing, shaft and wiggle the cog to and fro on the shaft to free it up. Mucky job, so lay down some newspaper. At the other end, you should see three planetary gears through a small aperture - apply grease to the gears and spin them with the head of a screwdriver.

Re-assemble.

For more detail, search this forum for "Starter", and have a look at the sticky with the exploded diagrams for reference.

What a wonderful website.

Now, to deal with those pesky indicators...........

moto bins direct , new starter , took advise from local mec said the starter bushes were prob the cause , and a local starter repair company were gonna charge more that the cost of a new one , so bit the bullitt and ordered a new one ,

Hi Buzzy,
interesting, seems a bit steep just to repair the bushes - I can give you the address of a company that wil re-con starters, costs around £50 +VAT. Don't junk the old starter...I'd even offer to buy it it weren't so heavy to post ??
