Latest weather

Any campers made of sugar should look away now:augie

Monday 28th January 2008 to Sunday 3rd February 2008
"Wet and windy in the north, drier and brighter for the south."
There is a good sign that a large area of high pressure will build across to the south of the UK, suggesting that much of England and Wales will become drier, with some sunshine.

Scotland and Northern Ireland are likely to see further outbreaks of rain with a threat of gales, perhaps severe at times across the northwest.
Predominant wind direction will be southwesterly, which means that it should stay relatively mild.

Monday 4th February 2008 to Sunday 17th February 2008

“The weather is in no mood to change.”
It looks like the pattern will stay much the same, with low pressure to the north of the UK and high pressure to the south, a fairly typical set-up for this time of year.

This should keep things fairly mild, with the strongest winds and heaviest rain in the north, driest weather in the south.
Will it turn colder as we head further into February? Find out next week

Its getting closer folks

You'll need to be thinking about packing your bikes up after the weekend:eek::D

:blast I just read that as.. You'll need to be thinking about your bikes packing up after the weekend

Think I need to leave work early and keep off the coffee :o :D

I spent last Saturday night in my tent near Cannock Chase and I was actually too warm! Let's hope it stays as mild in the Lakes.

the more snow on the way, hope the still some on the hills for us to see when us old buggers get up there:P:thumb

I've been hoping all along to get some snow but the long range weather says it will be warming up again by then.

I'm sure non of us will be cold once we're wearing our alcoholic overcoats:beer:

A bit of sunshine would be good but hey, we are hard motorcycle adventures so bring it on:D

please note boys the are going to be very few green lanes we can do, it might be worth not even trying laning up there on the GSer for this weekend with the lanes that have been closed and the fact the road ride is going to be a good fun run

Squid, i'm going to have to come home saturday nigh now ..sorry
but i'll be there for friday and saturday day until 5. 30 ish.

Thats Ok - I used to be frightened of my wife too:D

I'm not too concerned about the green lanes so long as others aren't. I'm sure we'll have a good couple of days either way.:thumb

You won't be saying I've done a good job when you're pitching that tent in a wind swept swamp:augie

A summer weekend would be nice. Not sure about the timing though. I won't be back from the Spanish trip until the 20th of May.

Something to talk about in the pub:beer:

Who's still brave then - confirmation time

This was the last list I did - I think.

So be aware the Green lane sections are unlikely to happen due to factors posted earlier.

So it's camping or bunkhouse/BB Fri and Sat night.

A relaxed ride out on Sat plus beer and piss taking in the evenings:beer::D

place for Digger06 / Ugg?

please correct if I have this wrong

Friday booked off work, route planned and camping gear being assembled. I'm still up for it.

I'm leaving the far east on Friday morning - A47, A17, A1, then cut across somewhere, if anyone's interested in meeting up for the last stretch.

Here are some directions.

For the ride out shall we say 10.30am Sat from the Pub carpark.

from the South:
Leave the M6 at junction 36 and take the A591 Kendal bypass through to Windermere. Just through Windermere turn right onto the A592 to the Kirkstone pass and Ullswater. Over the pass and down the other side, towards the bottom, you will see The Brotherswater Inn on the left. Turn into the pub car park - then drive through for the camp site.

from the North:
At junction 40 on the M6, take the A66 westward towards Keswick. After a quarter of a mile turn left on to the A592 to Ullswater, following the road for approximately six miles in the direction of Windermere and Kirkstone Pass. The entrance to the camp site is approximately two miles beyond Patterdale on the right hand side of the road before the Brotherswater Inn. If you miss this entrance, turn into the pub car park - then drive through for the camp site.

The Google Earth Pic is just after coming down the Mountain Pass

The ride

I don't know the area well so based on the route Bazza did for us (with a few changes) here's my proposal.

Its 99 miles which with lunch and given the size of the roads should fill in the time?

Does anyone know of a good Lunch stop along the way? We will be going clockwise around.

Looks like a really good route, with lots to see and plenty of places to pull over for photos. I haven't been to the Lakes for several years, but I've driven all these roads (and cycled some of them). Let's cross our fingers for good visibility.

There's a pub close to the bottom of the Eskdale valley (King George IV, I think) past Boot that used to do food, but it's a few years since I've been there.

here's the garmin file.

Anyone willing to put their hand up for taking the lead on the ride? I'll be using a Quest1 without voice and don't know the area, 100 miles might turn into 120:D

Any chance of posting the route in a format that I can upload into my TomTom? Thanks.

I've added the garmin file, can you convert this to run on Tomtom?

PS 10 day weather forecast predicts 5-9degC with 60% chance of a shower and 6 mile visability
