Hi Folks,
I've just purchased a used "but not much" Garmin 2610 and to be honest i am completly perplexed.
We have followed the instuctions put everything onto our laptop and then transferred it to the sat nav.But to be honest i am an utter and complete techno numpty.
I live in Beverley, if there is anyone local who could give me some guidence it would be much appreciated.

Thanks Steve

Hi Steve I've moved this to the relavent section of the GPS forum where it should get more input. What sort of problems are you having? Maybe I can help.

likewise if i can help, just upgraded to a 550, and getting help for that,

had the 2610, was well pleased with it,.

what is it you need help with.

What sort of help do you need? Switching on a 2610 for the first time and trying to operate all those "user-unfriendly" buttons can be scary for a first-timer.

There is a lot of help available on this site. Pull up a chair, switch the kettle on, get munchies in, take the phone off the hook and get your secretary to cancel all your appointments.

The first 3 are stickies detailing how to use Mapsource. Basically, if you want to get from A to B you can plan a route in it and transfer the route to the 2610. You can also get it to take you from A to D stopping at B to take photos. Best thing I found was to take one step at a time and be confident in that before moving onto the next step - don't do it all at once. :thumb2 Stick with it and all will become clear.

how did you power it. I ve bought one 2nd hand but of course it doesnt come with a mini 12v DC plug - where can you get those? The software seemed straight forward but if I can help with any questions I will.

There should have been 2 power cables with it - both slide into the back of the 2610. One for the car - plugs into the accessory socket - the bike cable can be quite different - depends how you want to connect it. Is your bike an Adventure with the extra accessory socket - you could use this or get one fitted. The socket by your foot maybe a bit too far out of the way to be comfortable. Others wire it direct to the battery - this is what I do. I have an Optimate socket and the 2610 plugs into this. What bike do you have - things get a bit more confusing if you have a 1200 due to the Canbus. Do a search - use these 2 words Powering 2610 - some help on fitting it to a 1150 and 1200 comes up. The cable can be bought from Garmin (expensive) or from here (cheap) and pop up on fleaBay from time to time. Likewise the 12v DC plug (not from Garmin tho - Nippy Norman should have them)

To power the unit in the house, do a search on EBay for one of these

that way you can use the in-car 12V lead without having to invest in a mains supply unit.

Mine cost about £5 all in from EBay and is ideal for the 2610. Trader is Mighty Oak Trading, item is "POWER 12V ITEMS FROM MAINS 240V AC TO 12V DC CONVERTER"
