Sat nav locking barrel

Went out to the bike today and noticed the locking barrel at the side of the sat nav was missing, I can only assume it has fell out. What I can't understand is the nav is locked tight in its holder

Anyone any idea what the cost to replace from the main stealers as it is coded is this the only option.

The lock cylinder should be around £40. Part number 51257681200.

You shouldn't have to pay for it. Quite a few bikes have had that problem. Pannier locks also.

Getting a new barrel this week as mine has also fallen out unnoticed.

No doubt someone will be along soon to tell you it is your fault not bmw's because you are or are not blipping the throttle on downshifts or because you don't understand the intricacies of how to ride an lc which has caused the lock barrel to fail

When I bought a new car in 2000

I asked a pointed question:
If anything falls off it in the first year, will the dealer replace it free of charge?
Without hesitation he replied an unequivocal YES.
I then said that if a wheel trim fell off, he would be replacing it.
Major backtrack, and an offer to tie them on with tywraps, which I refused,
saying that if they needed tying on there was a design fault.
We parted, me with car, and nothing did fall off in the first, or any other year.
But I had asked the question, mainly because an acquaintance had bought a Toyota the same year, and within a week it had lost all 4 wheeltrims. A bump on the road, and they were gone.

Well phoned the dealer who informed me I have 4 days of warranty left, I said I need to get the nav off the bike so I have got to go tomorrow to get it off using another lock barrel, then wait for a replacement.

How lucky I am have 4 days left to repair a proven fault, ha ha they even said they have had loads like that.

Just back from dealers. The barrel fell out because a small plastic retaining edge inside the sat nav cradle had worn away. So a new cradle as well as lock is required.

Thought i would mention it so that others could have it checked when replacing the barrel.

Something like this was mentioned when I went into Chester BMW today, now this particular bike is sold as I pick a newer one up tomorrow and I needed to get my sat nav off before it goes.

Anyway gets there after numerous calls, and we will phone you back crap. Then, now this is the feckon straw that broke the camels back. Chester BMW " Because we can't complete the warranty work we are going to have to charge you to get the nav off"

WTF ! I told him politely, of course, There is no way I'm paying feck all to have it released as it a fault on the bike. He come back two minutes later with the sat nav. So the fault is logged and the new owner will have to go and get it sorted at their own dealer.

There you have it customer service at its best.
