I have just connected my 2610 using the garmin canbus cable.

However if I turn the key on and then the sat nav, all is ok. When I then start the bike the sat nav switches off and will not come back on until I have switched off and left it for a minute or two..

Doesn't seem right to me...

Any suggestions...:nenau

Bike is a 2010 ADV

Trev, When you press the starter button the can-bus will bush all the power to the starter motor etc. Which will of course turn off the sat nav. Not sure why it will not turn on once the motor has started. Must be some sort of resister that prevents power untill requested by switching on the unit.

Do you remember the trip through Wales when the can-bus kept cutting the power to the Zumo? After that I Connected my sockets direct to the battery with in line fuses. :thumb2

I have thought about connecting a relay to the canbus that will turn off the battery supply when not in use, but have never really got round to it.
Plus there's never been any issues with the direct wiring and charging is very simple.

It's a load-shedding system. When the starter button is pressed, all non-essential circuits are shut down until the engine is running; the controller than re-energises each circuit in some sort of priority order (e.g headlights first). The socket should come back to life of its own accord if a load is attached to it. I suspect that you will have to press the 'On' button of the satnav to make this happen.

Might have to try this myself - my TT Rider switches itself on and charges when I first turn the ignition on, but then stops charging once the bike is started

sat nav power

I had this problem. firstly I ran a Quest from the Canbus with no problems, when I connected my Zumo, it would power up under battery power with the ignition but it shut down when the bike started, the Canbus 'rejected' the satnav. I spoke to the local dealer and they said that they know of this problem and the get round it sing a relay. The relay's coil is driven by the canbus and a supply is taken across the relays from the battery +ve to drive the satnav. This way the power to the satnav cradle is removed when the ignition is off and the Canbus shuts down.

Change the setting on the TT so it doesn't switch itself off when it doesn't get a power supply, or fit a direct power supply from the battery :thumb

I would check the condition of the battery. A weak battery will cause all kinds of similar problems.. Mine reverts to showing the clock and total mileage on start up eventhough it was on different settings before. Mind you its a 5 year old battery and on the way out. I should be getting a new one in spring.
