My son wants a sat nav for Christmas, any one got any recommendation's on a new one for him?

Its for his car.

any bargains etc to be had?

There's a glut of white box, NOH Garmin Nuvi 200 series to be had, various models.

I did post a note in spotted bargain.

Halfords seem to have deals on satnavs most weeks. I've got as garmin 250 which cost me £80 from amazon a while back - has eu mapping, is easy enough for my wife to need and has never let us down
