On my 100GS I already had the accessory socket fitted, and so used a powerlet socket into a centech fuse panel. The gps / autocom etc are then powered from the centech panel. During the day the powerlet is plugged in, at the end of the day it's unplugged. Allows the battery to be easily charged too 
What's a "light socket"

on my bike I fabricated a bracket to go on the right-hand side of the bike, and then used a NN accessory socket, as it came with a fuse already fitted

I fitted a Centech fuse panel to mine so I could add any additional gadgets through that. 
What's a "light socket"
a light socket would be anything from 4mm to 13mm.
anything bigger could be described as a heavy socket.

Surely you'll need a metric adapter as it's a German bike
i have just wired up my lighter socket on to the bikes accessory socket the way there wire were fixed on was bad so i put a new socket on and it works the wire come out under the front of my seat and goes in the my tank bag i have put the socket in a water proof bag as the socket is one of the metal one and not the ones covered in plastic plus if its in the bag it should be fine and when i get some money i will get a sat nav clamp for my bars

Just bought a Centech fuse box for my PD -where have people fitted them ?
Fitted mine on the back mudguard after using "potting" on the underside of the PCB.
I then binned it after 6 months.
I the terminals are cheap junk and 2 of them failed.
I think a Power Plate from the US would be a much better solution. It uses a relay. I had one on my Valk and it worked very well.

Thanks John -doesn't sound too promising, but guess I'll coat with ACF, as with everything electrical . Maybe you got too much rainwater in it ?
I was thinking of fitting just in front of the toolbox ?
Took the legs off, tapped some thin plastic onto the bottom of the centech and then slid the plastic under the battery rubber straps.
