sorry for asking this one:) i'm sure it's been asked before:o

i use a garmin etrex legend for when out green laning on the orange bike.

i'm looking for a GPS system that i can use both on my GS1150 and quicky put into the car .
i need it to do DOOR to DOOR both UK and Europe( post codes)
and water proof.. those are the basic things i require..

anyone had one and used it in Europe for the above functions??.
Halfords have got a sale on at the moment wonder weather to treat myself??

help?

Own power supply independent from bike important?

If not then get the Garmin 2610 as the prices are unbelievable now. I paid £550 for mine 20mths ago which was a great price at the time as list was £800 and yet now you can get em for £185ish.

Speak to Pipster, he's getting one with everything included to fit into car and onto bike (cradle , extra power lead etc) for £240.

I’d recommend ether a Garmin Zumo which is the latest Bike GPS with postcodes and left hand buttons (and will work in a car just fine) or as Rushy suggests, the Garmin 2610 at around £190 (no postcodes, cheap as chips, but perfectly usable)

(This thread probably wants moving to the GPS section)

I have heard glowing reports about the Garmin Quest/Quest2.

We live in an area where all but a few of the well known couriers cannot find us. A good friend of mine found me with his Quest simply from our address. It told him what our postcode was!! It also planned a route which turned out to be better than the locals use. Needless to say I am saving to get one.

You really don't want to do that

i need it to do DOOR to DOOR both UK and Europe( post codes)

Using a GPS navigator, simply to go door to door misses out their fantastic route planning capabilities. I enjoy spending half an hour or so planning a route on the pc.

I have a Quest 1 and LOVE it, but the 2610 is now fantastic value, but both lack postcode search, which is not a huge problem if planning a route on a PC

If you insist on door to door, then you must spend lots more and look for a newer unit with postcode search.
:D

Mapping for Norn Iron being what it is, I'm surprised anyone bothers with GPS across the water.

Is it raining today in Limavady by any chance ??

You've been a member since March 2006 and you've made over 400 posts and never seen the GPS section?  ;)

he needs help finding his way around everywhere :D

( ps, the 2610 does a "short"postcode search, i.e. AW1 3 - instead of AW1 3AB. Done with the street name is spot on )

well do not use this site to much only realy post in northwest section..
but ask folk who go green laning with me and these guys will tell you i'm ace finding my way around.. MAPS only:thumb

Quest gets my vote :thumb on the bike, car or even the mountain bike for off routes, waterproof and it's own battery.
Does not do post code search, but no problem.

Does that mean that most of of the unknown couriers are able find you?
No flies on you is there? There's a big gap between well known and unknown. Somewhere in between is a whole host of idiots without GPS telling me I don't live at my address and returning parcels to sender. If they had Garmin Quest they would be able to find me no bother.

I'll let you know if we have a day with no rain.
