Like many of the new yobbo class riding the LC, I am pretty lost without my Apple gear and the iPad isn't something you can easily handhold and ride at the same time - unlike the iPhone for example. So you need the ability to mount it and ensure if you want to check mails, play video, surf the web etc. you can do that safely.
Like Jumblemo, I've gone the MiFi route for connectivity.

I've commissioned a college chum who was up with me at Bristol to write an iPhone/iPad rev counter app. Problem solved!

Seems completely reasonable then, and you're right in this digitally connected age there's no reason why we shouldn't be able to enjoy the fruits of Lord Jobs greatest set of inventions.

I assume you are using the 802.11g aerial to pick up the RF interference from the electronic fuelling system to calculate the rev values?
I'm thinking we should coin the phrase BiFi....

do you use your rev counter
Loosen the four screws on the bracket, adjust the tilt to your liking and tighten them.
I'm 6"2 and have no problems with it blocking the rev counter after adjusting.

The only apple gear you need on a bike trip is made by Merrydown.
If you really can't be parted from your phone, email, twitter or whatever for more than a day, then I feel very sorry for you.
The dealer loaner WC TE I'm riding while my bike is serviced has had the satnav adjusted so you can read the rev counter. However by tilting it upward it does increase the amount of screen glare. Think I prefer the clipped view.

Well I think it's an inspired idea Count and is to be applauded. Might I suggest a possible modification for you to consider. When the terrain gets a little rough and the iPad starts to jump about a bit – why not move it down out of the way to in front of the engine and use it as a crud catcher, thereby saving money on expensive Touratech bling. 
I sometimes like to use my sat nav,zumo 660, and sometimes I like to use paper maps it all depends on what I'm doing and where I'm going.
I do find that using the sat nav tends to file the route into a part of my brain that finds it difficult to recall at a later date,whereas I seem to be able to recall a route much easier if I've ridden it the old fashioned way.
As for the sat nav obscuring the tachco on the lc,my findings were if you can't see the tachco you're somewhere between 5-6k rpm simple.
After a couple of hours on the bike you should know where the revs are anyway
