An old fart's tale..
I knew it was gonna be a good day..woke at abart 7 and heard a thud on the door-mat...
Put the kettle on and grilled mesel' a sarnie of bacon..no pic's I was hungry.
Due to a misunderstanding on my part, failed to meet Snoopy where I said I would....instead set-off in glorious sunshine in me Arai illegal dark tint visor to fend off the rays of an early morning Delaval sun..
Obviously it began to rain.... I can't remember where, but by the time I hit the slopes of Carter Bar I was doubly blessed with a road surface with the top layer of tarmac scraped off and snow all over my visor...a blizzard engulfed me ..
Normally I would be embedding a Carter Bar picture here, but frankly I was scared I'd get caught up here and I needed to get to Jedburgh for petrol..
I presssed-on, with grips on "II" and lights on "Everything" as the blizzard blasted from the NW...
Dropping down off "the Bar", the snow turned to rain and I could feel the temperature rising (Later Snoopy told me the temp in Newcastle was 10C and on Carter Bar it was 2.5 ...)
So, into Jedburgh 10 minutes late, spotting Forry's bike at the cafe..
I'm not a man for hot beverages, but a "Regular Hot Chocolate" seemed like a good idea.....
It might not look much to you, but that's possibly one of my best £1.90 ever spent.
The Dawg weren't there and Forry elaborated on text exchanges etc and after about 20 minutes the Schnoop arrived, seemingly cryogenicly preserved: I allowed him to wrap his fingers around my ex-chocolate filled and by now tepid cup....
A few other daft types came in, including, if I'm not mistaken the chap who has my first GS in his care now..
By noon we decide we should get going...
...there was a strange thing going on about tyres...and wheels...
I thought a tubeless repair kit was adequate and left to fill up with petrol whilst Snoopy and Forry resolved the tyre choice..
So with "Biggar" plotted we set off on an initially efficient but dull route, in pouring rain...to be rewarded with some of the strangest scenery I've seen: On the approach to Biggar, which I guess is at a fairly high altitude, steam was rolling off the fields, yet the hills were shrouded in snow.
So we arrived in Biggar and parked up.
There was only one way to go..except if you're Snoopy..fish,chips and mushy peas...£6.80
But they were good..
I've had bigger portions, but it was good quality nosh... on the whole: Yes - worth the ride..
Snoop's new bike:
Too good for him
Bellies stuffed we followed Forry, in a hail shower, down to The Cabin at St.Mary's Loch, passing the Talla and Megget Reservoirs..
It was like a different day:
Ours were the only bikes..
After which, we headed east and at Cornhill bid fairwell to Forry and I lost Snoop a short while later..
Left the house about 09:30 got home a bit before 18:00...
..cold in the bonez...
..but what a great day..
Forry & Snoopy, thank you for your company.
