I have read several travel logs where the tracklogs from teh GPS has been saved whilst on said trip:-

1. Is this straightforward to do?
2. is it possible on a palm top?
3. does mapsource need to be loaded on to said palm top to save a tracklog from a GPS (currently using a Nav III)

Hi Shaun, I usually take a mini laptop with me to save the tracklog too (but it’s a PITA). Modern GPS’s like the Zumo and even the 60Csx can save many days worth of track log directly to the card.

I have been told a PDA can backup the tracklog, but don’t have the details on how to do it, sorry.

Thanks ebbo, it was your travel logs that first got me going on this, unfortunately my Nav3 saves roughly 1000 miles which just about covers half a normal European trip.

Hi Shaun

Have a look at THIS thread and read what Bob Jeffries says.

My own solution in the end was to carry a Garmin etrex Legend cx which stored all my tracklogs to a card including all date, time and altitude info. Only limit on the number of tracklogs was the size of the card. I travelled 4000miles and filled 2% of a card.

Cheers Popeye have had quick look on fleabay and that could be a cheaper & easier option, but as said in your thread, god only knows why BMW don't get garmin to run software to release the 800mb to tracklog storage as the Nav 3 doesn't have the MP3 facility
