Saw new RT LC yesterday

In my dealers, LE version, cost / he says £16,000 +

pricing ordinary motorcyclists off the road.

The bike looks smaller than I expected though, much better looking in the flesh, makes the old RT look, sort of old. Very nice though.

I see it as doing the 'ordinary motorcyclist' a favour; putting up a (cost) barrier to mediocrity and the ownership of an anodyne motorcycle

With all due respect, you're out of date - list price is not a barrier since most are buying on finance.

+1 what the man said. Quite, it costs an absolute fortune to have the new and shiny BMW roundel with all the gizmos and gadgets.

There are other ways: The G650 is a nice bike well priced if you're a BMW obsessive; Honda's 750 semi auto looks very nice at a sensible price.. or there was a very good looking R1100RS linked somewhere here and that's a whole lotta touring for £1200..

My current RT (2013) was £14400 RT SE + Dynamic pack (no radio). So nearly £2000 to move from that to new model, okay I know theres a few differences, but it's a big leap. I hired mine on finance and fully intend swapping after the 3 years is up, so by then the new Rt will be £15,000. Even on finance thats a lot to be responsible for as basically (for me) a summer fun bike.
Obviously there are lots on here who think nothing of the cost of the bike, but when you see other manufacturers making similar bikes for less, then it seems BMW are looking at their car prices and bringing bike prices in line iyswim.

Obviously its down to the individual as to whether they see the product as worth it, which is what I did with my current bike, but don't see that with the new pricing on the new model.

Price is so subjective and whether or not you think that is expensive is completely relative to your income.
For a lot of people, that is less than a months salary, for me, it's not far off a years take home.
Much as I'd love one, it's a pipedream for me. It's twice what I pay for the family car and 4 times what I can afford for a bike.

Bottom line...if BMW can sell all they can make and make handsome profit, then they got the price right.....for them anyway!

My 10 year old 1150 is still running sweet as a nut (touches wood).

I saw the new RT at BMW Park Lane's launch evening yesterday.

It's a nice looking bike, with several of the better styling points and features of the bigger 1600GT incorporated. If I were in the market for a good European tourer I would have a look at one, probably in preference to a GS of any variety.

I also had a good look at the new GSA; it's a bike that is morphing into something quite different to what was envisaged 25 years ago, that's for sure.


Me? The one that interests me most is the S1000R.

I've just bought one. I test rode a GS and the RT, both were lovely bikes, but the handling of the RT was as good if not sharper than the GS and for me, the comfort was much better. Time will tell if I have made the right choice. No pictures yet, I collect it next week.

Great looking bike.

Have you had a chance to figure out now (if) the Nav5 locks to the bike? Dick Lovett assure me that it will be possible but I haven't seen any locking mechanism myself yet.

I must admit that I haven't looked in any great detail but I don't think it does. The 'glovebox' is designed to hold the Nav5 and as that is part of the central locking system I think that BMW have decided that is the best way to lock it. With my old RT I always used to remove the Satnav and put it in the top box so, for me, the glove box is a logical place, especially with the central locking.

It is the Ebony Black, but depending on the light is Black, Brown or Plum, the metal flake is superb!

Took one out for a test ride today. Fantastic!!! Feels a lot lighter and waaaay quicker than my 2008 RT. Nearly took off and not even in dynamic mode! When I can afford it I will buy one. It's very much like the K1600GT [same clocks etc] but £3k+ cheaper. or should I say less expensive.
However, I am told the top box costs £1000 extra! Think I'll put a Givi on instead when the time comes.
Also there is no rack for the BMW tank bag , a pity.
