The local dealer had 8 Street 500's in the shop being prepped for the new rider classes they offer. These were all black with some body panels being matte black. Thankfully fit and finish looked *much* nicer than the early production or prototype that was at the show in January. These were manufactured in Missouri where Harley makes V-Rods. I wouldn't be surprised if the engine/transmissions came from India but they didn't know that for sure.
He said Harley has only been sending them to dealers that offer the riding classes in order to replace the aging Buell Blasts. They started in the south where the weather has been nice for a few months and have been working their way north. In a few months HD will start filling orders to the rest of the dealers.
Personally I have no interest in owning one (especially the 500cc version) but here almost all HD dealerships sell Harley exclusively so a smaller, lighter, less expensive motorcycle is exactly what HD dealers have needed.

Shoot I didn't think of it and I had my phone too.

Here's a photo I took of one at the motorcycle show this winter it's the 750 version (larger bore and maybe different gearing). Honestly the build quality looked pretty iffy, things like welds, paint, alignment of panels, plastic around the instruments, etc. The ones I just saw at the dealer looked much better. Since they are Rider Course bikes they were in the shop area being fitted with wide crash bars front and rear. The factory in India is making them for all markets other than here. Possibly due to the union contract all Streets for North America are built in Missouri.

the one thing i loved about nearlly all of the harleys ive had was a sticker that said UNION MADE , made in the USA which for me is harley and i know a lot if not most things are out sourced to the far east/china/india thtas ok for your I PHONE your laptop etc but for me not for one of the greatest brands in motorcycling ,i dont know how the unions feel about this .

I've got to hand it to them Harley's union has made a number of concessions over the last 10 years or so in order for the company to remain as competitive as possible. Not only tiered wages but also allowing for temporary workers, etc. The union is smart enough to realize Harley needs to expand sales abroad to India, Asia, and developing countries with a lighter less expensive line that's competitive. Neither management or the union wants to give up their traditional operations here so manufacturing the ones sold in NA here is a good compromise. And since the V-Rod factory is under-utilized what better place.

LOL neither is the new "Street" series, so it's fitting they're being made along side each other.
