The local dealer had 8 Street 500's in the shop being prepped for the new rider classes they offer. These were all black with some body panels being matte black. Thankfully fit and finish looked *much* nicer than the early production or prototype that was at the show in January. These were manufactured in Missouri where Harley makes V-Rods. I wouldn't be surprised if the engine/transmissions came from India but they didn't know that for sure.
He said Harley has only been sending them to dealers that offer the riding classes in order to replace the aging Buell Blasts. They started in the south where the weather has been nice for a few months and have been working their way north. In a few months HD will start filling orders to the rest of the dealers.
Personally I have no interest in owning one (especially the 500cc version) but here almost all HD dealerships sell Harley exclusively so a smaller, lighter, less expensive motorcycle is exactly what HD dealers have needed.
