Finally managed to remove the spring, give it a rattle can paint job with the yellow for the B44VS tank and get it fitted to the G/S.
It had a, err, home made spring, cut down out of something long and light, and I decided to fit the shock to see if the spring was right for my 90 kg( dry) , before having the shock re gassed/serviced.
Checked the damping while the spring was off, felt as good as new, and like every Ohlins I have had the adjuster sets both the compression and rebound - someone should tell the guy who writes the manual s for Ohlins !
At the POs settings it was better than my recently serviced WP, with much better damping allowing the use of a softer spring.
1 mm more preload and a couple of clicks less damping and it is just about perfect, but to be fair to the WP it had a heavy spring set for a full load of RTW style luggage.
But of course it now requires the front softened a little too - anyone know which of the aftermarket springs are softest, and work with a #70/ 400 lb ish spring ?
