Just bought and fitted on these to my lid and I am having real trouble finding radio stations with it!

I commute from near Aylesbury Bucks into Docklands daily and thought I would try some music to alleviate the monotony of the journey.

Fitted it no bother sat in garden in scorching heat with lid on(under an umbrella) yet not a single FM station to found despite the radio working in the kitchen(DAB one though). In front of the house I get the local station just about Mix 96.

On the way to work that disappears and can find nothing! Switch off and leave it till first set of lights in town off the M1, it now picks up all sorts R4, R3, R2 etc and various other stations, excellent, sorted i think!

I listen for the rest of the journey to R2, not great, a little crackly but ok.

On the return journey all is good till i get to the M1 then it it peters out rapidly until only white noise is heard! "RDS facility is enabled"

What am i doing wrong?

Any ideas preferably form those who have a similar device :)

Many thanks

Chris

I bought the G4 when my old Q2 gave up the ghost having been dropped on the floor too many times. I have a mixed response with the G4. The radio will only work when you have good reception and a strong signal. For me, living in rural Wiltshire, this means its no use to man nor beast. The Q2 was the same. However, for music I normally listen to tunes from my Zumo 550 or stand alone MP3 player which through the cable is excellent and much better than with the Q2. On Bluetooth however, there's no improvement over the Q2, evben with the extra volume as the signal is very crackly. To avoid the crackle you have to turn the volume down to the same as with the Q2 which for me is not loud enough.

The GPS instructions ar fine through Bluetooth though so I put up with a cable if I'm in music mode and stick with Bluetooth for GPS only. I have given up on the radio unless I'm driving under the transmitter.

Thanks for that, not what I was hoping but I guess no great surprise, not sure i will bother with a bluetooth adaptor then for ipod i will put up with a cable. Shame as in town the radio works well!

I dont have a sat nav so no problem there. Perhaps i should have put more thought into it before buying!!:blast

Console yourself with the fact that the radio wouldn't work after the digital switchover anyway!:D

God knows where that leaves just about every car driver in the UK with an FM-based car stereo?:nenau

The G$ FM reception is poo. Looking into a DAB radio to input via the wire.

Probably flashing the cash on one of these

Same here - it was a weak moment but at least I saved £70 buying it from Italy via Ebay.

Another way round it is to use a radio transmitter connected to your radio enabled phone, iPod, etc.
I picked one up from Homebase for £3.50 and when plugged into my iPhone 3Gs, I'm able to use the iPod tunes to both rider and pillion using Q2 headsets. Using the radio's on the Q2's. A feature you can't do using the Zumo 550 MP3 player.
The iPhone and transmitter stay in the topbox and is set on random.

Just a thought.

......and if you get the pure highway as suggested by mr badger i think it also has a built in transmitter, which would do the same thing and then you would have your radio too. although i stand to be corrected as im still saving up to actually lay my hands on one....
