Hmm.

As some of you may know. I'm picking up my new (to me) steed on Saturday.

This will be the first GS I've owned and am, as you can probably guess, very excited.

However, and this is where my overactive paranoia gland kicks in, I've read quite a few posts on here with some fairly major, bike stopping, problems and this has me more than a little "concerned"

There's still time left for me to cancel my order....

Some of you will no doubt say I should have found out about the issues before purchasing but until last Saturday, when I ordered it, I hadn't really considered buying a new bike... I'm a fairly impulsive person

Come on, rally round, punch me in the arm a bit and call me a silly sod and tell me not to worry.. Alternatively call me a prat and tell me to call the dealer and tell him he can't go on his holiday with my funds...

The way I see it is its new, its under warranty so if owt goes wrong your back to the dealer. Got mine in May, ok twas 2nd hand with 500 miles on the clock, never regretted it once, always smile when I ride away.

I still get excited now when getting ready for a trip out, cant say that about many of my previous bikes.

Let us know how you get on after you have had the bike a few days.

Don`t worry about it. The bikes are superb. Sure, some people have had issues but the HUGE majority are running perfectly. My advice is ride it regularly and don`t listen to all the bad sh*t which people sometimes post. Anyway, you have one of the best warranties and back up in the business if anything were to happen.

Just remember that the GS is the best selling bike in Europe and there are bloody thousands of them out there being ridden with absolutely no problems. The percentage of issues are pretty small and certainley no more than anything else IMHO. Lets face it, BuMW wouldn`t be top of the sales tree if it were a bad product because it ain`t cheap!!

Enjoy it, ride often and and I bet you won`t stop grinning for at least a week after you pick it up

Yers teher have been some issues. The antenna looks like it is being sorted, and the fuel pump relay is a known problme. Tim Cullis has amassed a list of all UKGSer menres affacted, it is eomehwre around 150/160 so far. Out of how many 1200Gs/GSA and RT models owned by members ? Not all are affected, yet. Ther are other niggles, but none have generated as much noise as the ring antenna and the fuel pump relay, so seem less common.

You have 2 years of warranty to get these fixed, ( assuming by "new" you do mean "new" and not "new to you ") so get out there and ride it as much you can ...

Hopefully you will enjoy it as much as the rest of us seem to...

I do realise as well that you never really hear about the good things. I suspect if everyone posted here about the good things about their bikes it would swamp the posts about faults. People are more likely to put their gripes on t'internet

My new steed is an '06 1200GS with around 4k on the clock. I'm getting it from Coopers in Sunderland. (anyone got any reviews, good or bad, I'd be happy to hear them).

I'm praying to the weather gods that it's a nice day on Saturday.

Sorry, I didn't make it clear. It's new to me.. an '06 with 4k on it

I get a 12month warranty with it as it's from a main dealer.

Was worried sick the day I was about to pick up my GSA. And yes, it was raining too that Saturday morning in February 2008. But let go of all your concerns. Once you plant your ass on that GS sofa, it will all go away and you will feel one with the bike. Just be easy on curves (new tires) and the brakes the first 100 miles. They have to get settled.

The vast majority that are happy with reasonable to good service won't come forwards- but the one or two who have had a bad experience will....human nature.

Take them as you find them, be nice with them and the chances are they'll be nice with you- go looking for problems and you'll find them.

(general comment, no reference to or implication about Coopers whatsoever, I know nothing about them)

Enjoy the bike, and stop bloody worrying!!!

Just get out there & ride it.

I've had my share of problems - all fixed.

Just done 2200 miles around France - 40 deg heat, hail, rain & wind - No probs (3 of us all on GS's)

The more you ride 'em , the better they get!!

All bikes have issues, its just that unless your a member of a club like this chances are you'll never hear of them. 'Ignorance is bliss'........ probably not, at least you'll be prepared and have heard of the symptoms should you be unfortunate to be affected.
My Kawa Zx12R had a number of issues, 1st there was the leaking fuel tank which had to be replaced under waranty and then there was the oil travelling through the stator cable to the voltage rectifier (which would then drip onto the rear tyre!!), both of which I learned about being a member of a club and both faults were soon rectified.
So don't be a 'prat', buy your bike and enjoy..................................................

A two year old bike with only 4k on the clock? Jeez - I did that in the first month!

Ride it and enjoy it!

Make sure they've done all the (free) warranty work on it though. It's just much easier when all the cash is still in your pocket and not in theirs.....

I've had all the problems and, while it's annoying, I wouldn't swap it for any other bike.

Can't say more than that!
