Anyone use them for a bike to bike setup? i know the book says 1.7km or 1 mile range but thats what the book says

What is it in reality?

at the moment my mate and i run a Intaride RP1 and an Intaride Evo both with PMR radios and external ariels and we do get quite good coverage even out of line of sight.

Is it worth upgrading?

I use G4 & G9 regularly, it depends on terrain greatly, G9 seems to work on a better range and easier to set up with greater range of functions, but a 500-800 metres is a more realistic figure in my experience.
