Schuberth C2 and S1 queries

Can anyone help with a few questions?
I am in the market for a new helmet and have been trying the C2 and S1 and been impressed by the build quality and comfiness but haven't made my mind up yet as to which one to go for. I will be a large size - 58/59
However, there are a few things that concern me a little, which if you own either (or both) you may be able to help with.
1. From the numerous threads here, the anti-fog coating seems to have caused a few problems through delaminating or rubbing off. These threads are a few years old now - has this problem been resolved by Schuberth?
2. Is it possible to easily fit either the C2 or S1 in the top box or largest side pannier on the R1200GS?
3. Has anyone fitted an Autocom headset system in the S1? The cheek pads look as if they might be very difficult to remove which would make fitting the speakers almost impossible. (There seems to be a question as to whether these have to be removed by a Schuberth repair centre, wherever that is?) I have looked at the fitting guide that Autocom provide for the C2 but there doesn't seem to be an equivalent for the S1.
4. Is an Fog City insert available for either helmet?
5. Is the Pinlock insert now more widely available and where in the UK can these be obtained from?

On my C2, the visor catches the helmet when opening and scratches the inside of the visor thus scratching the coating off.

I've chased this up with Tranam (Headlynz), the UK supplier and they said "They all do that, Sir". When I complained to Busters, where I bought it from, they spoke to the supplier again and said that I must have been opening the visor incorrectly!

Can't say about the BM' luggage but you can fit ONE in a Givi Maxima topbox. It is possible to fit two in after shoehorning them in but in practice, they're just too big.

Lessons learnt for me - a) don't buy Schuberth again as contacting the UK supplier is a waste of time. b) Don't buy through Busters.

Having said that, my C2 is the best all-round helmet that I have bought. I'm just hoping that by the time I come around to replace it, there will be something else suitable on the market.

I bought my third Shubert helmet last week, C2.
And, I bought a new visor for my second Shubert, Comfort, in May - same visor as C2.

I have for many years washed my visor with a dishsoap or the soap I find at the hotel room, and I polish it with Pledge, or a polish ( made for the last perfect finish for cars, no rubbing parts in it).

In the book that came with my new helmet it say I must NOT wash it with any soap or polish it!

The anti-fog layer inside my new helmet was peeling off, it loocked like old & dry glue from an old sticker. I called the dealer and they said for a short period the factory made bad visors, and I was unlucky to get one of those. But there was no problem; pop in and we give you a new visor!

When I got the new visor I told him how I normally clean my visor, and the book said ''no soap''.
He said if I do as I have done, and it looks OK, then just continue. But, BMW do not guarantee anthing if I put something on it - it's my choise.
I asked him how to clean it, and he said just water removes all dirt IF you do it when you stop - not the day after. ...but muselfes I'm not sure the bugs from before lunch are going to get off that easily when I park the bike for the night...

I have love my old Comfort, and my new C2 are even better:
Less fog, less sound, more air inside (if I want to) - I love it!
And I believe it is even better on cold weather too because it's tighter to my neck, but I can adjust it a little if I get claustrophobia.

There are more room between my hair and the hard part in some places, and still fit good - that is a good thing when it is hot!

C2 comes with and without the ''sunglasses'', I have one with.

I love it!

In the little book they tell me to keep an eye on the speedometer; because is is so quiet I do not hear the engine and the noise from the wind that much, and that might make me ride faster. It sounds funny, but IT IS TRUE! Roooooooaaaaarrr!

Why not take a look at the Caberg Justissimo - flip helmet with built-in drop-down sunshade (behind the visor). I've had mine for 6 months now, replaced an Arai Quantum-F. I tried on the Schuberth, it was nice but expensive and had mixed reviews (ie excellent v rubbish - usual consistency....). I picked up the Caberg for £149 - at that price it wasn't the end of the world if it didn't work out. I have been pleasantly surprised at the finish and comfort, the sunscreen is excellent and the flip works well. It is a little bit noisy at 85+, maybe a little more than the Aria, but I wear earplugs. The anti-mist coating works very well - did not mist up and no leaking at all on Friday when I was on the M40, M42 for 2 hours during the downpour. You might want to take a look!

I have had a Schuberth S1 for the past year and am very happy with it!

The coating on the inside of the main visors started to lift within about 1 month and this was replaced with no problems by Infinity and since then the visor has beenf fine. My Brother-in-law has now bought the same lid and he ordered a pinlock visor from louis.de which arrived quickly and was fine. He has somehow managed to "break" his sunvisor and is at the moment ordering one of them from louis.de and getting me a pinlock at the same time.

I can offer no advice on the AutoCom fitting issue as I like the sound of the wind not whistling past when I am wearing ear plugs.

Good lid, expensive price, but can be got cheaper than list price!

The C2 fits easily in the right hand pannier - provided you expand the pannier first! Not tried the top box, too full of other stuff.

An S1 does fit in an (expanded) 1200GS topbox.

The ant-fog coating is a joke - pinlock is a must, order from Louid.de

Here are my thoughts on your questions. If I don't know the answer I have not answered the individual Q. I am really impressed with the S1, the best helmet I have ever owned and a dark sunvisor as well which means no £35 on a dark visor, no need to carry a clear one round with me any more.

No, mine did that 2 weeks ago. The inner anti fog was faulty and the visor was replaced by infinity with no fuss at all. It now works fine and does not mist up at all even in torrential rain.

Yes, It was such a pain in the Arse that I rode up to Autocom in Warwick and got them to do it at the same time that I upgraded my intercom unit(coincidence).
The cheekpads are easy to remove, just pull hard and they simply push back in.
However, I found that the earphones caused agony within seconds to my ears when fitted behind the lining and in the recess to the rear of the strap. In other words the correct place to put the earphones. Of course, Autocom could not do any more as the foam on the helmet was to blame but when I got home some adjustments were made and some foam left the helmet and found its way to the bin which allowed the earphones to be recessed enough to stop the pain. This is the only way it could be done IMO, so be prepared to cut your helmet.
Autocom are brilliant, they really care about their products and fit them well to the bike and helmet. They fitted the mike and wiring to the helmet just fine.

Found I had to go up a size for a comfotable fit in a C2 but I like the quiet, the ventilation and the built sun visor. Haven't had any problems with fogging up.
I would recommend it and would certainly buy another.

Schuberth S1 and C2 questions

Thanks to everyone who has responded - fantastic replies and very helpful. It has answered my initial concerns, but hasn't made the choice much easier!! I still can't decide whether to go for the flip top or the S1. Decisions, decisions. My principal concern with the C2 is the added weight, albeit only about 50 grams heavier than my existing Arai Quantum F. Being of slight build and having a rather namby pamby neck, I am a bit concerned about neck ache after a long trip with the C2. It also seems odd that the price that I've been quoted in BVM (Stroud) for the more complex C2 is actually less than the S1. I will have to make my mind up soon as my Arai is looking tired and is now slightly whiffy.

Sorry to disagree. Always kept my C2 in the top box when parked. The helmet needs to have the chin guard unlocked and at an angle to the main body of the helmet, and the top box expanded.

Neck ache..

I have a J1 and my wife hayley a C2 which shes very happy with , No problems with neck ache and she has no wind protection on the little transalp she rides.If you want warranty to be valid make sure you buy from authorized dealer

Three weeks ago I would have posted a picture for you, but the bikes now been sold (GSA on order). My helmet size is 60/61.

About Schubert inside BMW panniers.

Knut has the black plast from BMW for his K100RS, and if he does it right he can put a Schubert opening helmet (Consept and the model earlier) in each pannier.
Most people does not hink it is possible the first time they try, but believe me, it is possible!

-Perhaps you need to put the helmet partly on its side, partly upside-down?
I feel pretty sure there are room for a Scubert helmet in all plast panniers from BMW made the last 20-25 years.
