Schuberth C3 or Shoei Qwest or Multitec

Hoping for some prior experience to shine through here! Im just in the process of choosing a new lid. I ride a GSA, my existing Arai Viper whistles, thunders and gerneally bangs around in the turbulence, my Shoei Raid 1 is MUCH quieter. Both lidas are getting on a bit, so time for a change.

So - my question is: Does anyone have experience of changing from an old noisy lid (like the Arai) to better stuff like the C3, Qwest, or Multitec riding behind the GSA screen, to specifically comment on the best choice for smoothest quietest ride. I don't want to be isolated from all ambient noice (otherwise I'd take the car!) , but I could do with less headaches when riding a long way!

I changed from an Arai RX7 to a Shoei XR1100 last year - much quieter & excellent vision through the wide visor. Visor is also easy to change, which despite what any experts tell you, I always find a pig on the Arai. I would put the Shoei on a par with the Schuberth S1.
 
I had to change my lid last year, and went from an Arai viper gt to a schuberth c3.

It took me ages to get used to the schuberth, for all its a great lid with lots of features I found it really uncomfortable to start with especially around the forehead area after wearing it for about 20 minutes, and no I haven't got an odd shaped head! :green gri I have since read quite a few people have experienced the same. I tried various sizes on before I bought it and had the correct size. Anyway I persevered and tried to compact the lining a bit and now find it no bother at all, well made and nice and quiet even with the flip front feature.

All I'd say is have a thorough look and try on before you part with your hard earned cash...

Always wear earplugs too - not so much for the wind noise, more to shut out the mechanical riot going on just under the tank......

My wife and I.... ooooooh hark at him. Have C3 helmets , looked at Shoei Syncro flip , this put too much pressure on my forehead so C3 it is. Nice quiet lid , need to look after flip down dark visor, any chemicals seem to affect finish. Mines 3 years old and one of the best lids ever owned.

As others have said wear earplugs , I have permanent tinnitus from riding without them. :rob

Thanks (Andrew) for the C3 comments - I did wonder about how optically correct or long lasting the sun visor is (bearing in mind I assume it's not removable/replaceable?) maybe wrong.
 
To be honest I've not done the miles on it yet but it is obviously noisier with the vents open.
 
I'm using a C3 with GSA screen plus Touratech screen spoiler. Overall I'm very happy with the C3. It's comfortable and quiet when I need it to be although I tend to mostly ride with the main visor up and the sunvisor down.

My only minor gripe is the chinstrap ratchet. On the one hand it's a lot easier to use than the normal D-ring fasteners. On the other hand it's relatively bulky and needs a bit of adjustment so that it doesn't press on your adam's apple.

My wife has a multitec and she's very happy with that although jealous of my built in sunvisor. That said, she's now considering a C3 herself as it seems to fit more comfortably than the Multitec. From our perspective, the other big plus of the C3 is the SRC system which is integral to the helmet itself as opposed to being attached to the outside.

You may also want to consider the new Shoei Neotec - well worth a look if the C3 doesn't agree with you.

With regards to the C3 sunvisor, since they're listed as an accessory on the Schuberth website, I assume that they are replaceable.
 
Its easier to change the C3 sunvisor than the main visor and it is a piece of p***, main problem I have with my C3 is that the main visor self closes at anything over 65 mph.
 
My new C3 is lovely, so was the last one - fits my head perfectly and has been comfortable and quiet from day 1.
 
Shoei are bringing out a replacement of the Multitec this year which will have an integral sunvisor. I think it is called the Neotec.

When we were originally looking at helmets I got Mrs G to try on the Lady C3 but it just wasn't comfortable which was why she ended up going for the Multitec. However, at the time, like a dumbass I didn't get her to try the regular C3 - which she's since tried and it fits perfectly.

Now she's stuck with an as good as new Multitec - Matt black, size S (55 - 56cm). Any takers? :augie
 
I would steer well clear of a C3 based only on my experiences, but they may have improved since my purchase soon after initial release. The Multitec is a good lid, but ventilation is not great and no sun visor. Recently purchased a Neotec, which so far, I'm very impressed with (quieter than Multitec, with sun visor and improved external visor size/pinlock etc)...
 
Had a multi tech for the last couple of years,I always found it very comfortable if somewhat noisy,although much of the noise could be overcome by opening the visor 1 click.

Seeing as Hein Gericke were offering deals,thought I'd go and have a look for a new helmet.

I looked at,

Shoei Multitech.....great helmet, would have preffered a sun visor,but a great price and would have been happy to buy another.

Shuberth C3.... Felt as though someone was stood behind me pressing their fingers into my head,plus the chin bar was touching my mouth,very uncomfortable and didn't fit me at all.


Shoei Neotec....Immediately felt very snug and comfortable,very easy to get on with my glasses.
Has a pinlock and a sun shield,felt to be much better made than the Shuberth.
Overall I really liked it and at £375 plus another £20 to spend in store I choose the Neotec.

First impressions...Very comfortable,everything is easy to operate with gloved hands,and much quieter than my Multitech.

I'm on my second Multitec and I love 'em! Probably not the quietest, but having also used a BMW System 6 and a Schuberth C2 I find them all round better. Can't wait to try the new Shoei Neotec.

I'm also a GSA rider with Touratech screen extension. In terms of weight and quietness, I thought all three of the above were so similar I couldn't really differentiate between them. What I was clear on though was that the Multitec was more comfortable, plenty of chin space, good flip mechanism, good venting, and unlike the other two, no annoying wind noise or draft around the back of the neck.

The only thing missing (which they've corrected on the Neotec) was the drop-down tinted visor.:thumb2
