Be very careful before you splash out on a schuberth c3.Great fit and comfort.Light weight and superb strap mechanism spoilt by appalling visor mechanism.useless.worse than a nolan guardsman.so flimsy,even dangerous as visor rips open or slams shut on its own.Buy one if you never travel over 30 mph and itll be fine.And dont bother with customer services of importer (oxford).
Worse than useless.

On the whole, I agree with your summary regarding the shortfall of this expensive helmet, and I wouln't recommend or buy another. I purchased the C3 not long after it was released at the NEC show. The visor leaks in the rain, and it had a habit of shutting at speeds around 30mph, which is/was most frustrating.

However, I can't agree with your comment regarding Oxford Products, as "Henry" at Oxford products did follow up on my behalf with Schuberth in circa April 2009, and provided a replacement visor which will now remains open at speeds up to/over circa 50mph (not ideal, but better than 30mph).

If I remember correctly, apparently there was a manufacturing/machining issue resulting in some visors having mounting teeth which were too small (or similar)....but the new visor still leaks in the rain though!

With all due respect I strongly disagree.

Bought my C3 last July, been excellent so far, visor/front piece both stay up at any speed.

I'm still struggling to move the main visor up and down after all these months, if anything it's too tight.

Very comfortable and light.

You must have had a faulty one sold to you, sorry.

got the same problem with the visor leaks and wont stay open above thirty m.p.h is there an improved version that stays open and how much is it?

I had a similar poor experience with one last September.
One ride in mild drizzle and the visor leaked like a sieve on one side regardless of how it was shut, shop couldn't adjust it to solve it. Secondly the lower lining band kept popping out, and the chin guard mechanism didn't lock positively.
Could be poor quality control IMO.
Got a full refund and bought another Arai.

Had a C2 which leaked and/or misted up no matter what I did to the visor. Purchased a new C3 in August last year and not had any problems with it at all. As previously stated even now the visor mechanism is stiff.

This size 54/55 of mine has the tightest fitting visor of all the helmets I've owned. Excellent fit, nothing has gone wrong with it.

Is your visor really leaking or do you have the chinpiece vent open ?


In heavy constant rain and traveling at a fair old lick, I found it vapourised the droplets and sprayed the inside of the visor, bad in the closed position and free-flowing in the open position.

The vent just works wether it be air or water !

A small piece of foam in there would stop the water I guess.

just spoke to oxford products 01993 862300 they are the sole importer for schuburth helmets they told me to return the helmet via the point of purchase and they will repair under warrenty,new visor with pinlock are £51.00 btw

I really fancy the C3, especially with the sun visor, but so many conflicting reviews and they are bloody expensive.
So so tempted, but I just can't decide.

I bought my C3 at the NEC in November, I have used it almost daily since then, my thoughts are as follows:-

The helmet is very comfortable and has a real snug secure feel about it.

In heavy rain there is a small trickle of water down the inside of the visor, this is only when the visor is in the closed position but not clicked shut ( I guess it needs that extra mm to make the seal with the rubber strip at the top of the visor.

If the visor is clicked shut there are no problems with leakage, the front vent allows a good airflow to prevent condensation even on the coldest mornings. When the front vent is open the wind noise gets a bit louder ( this may be turbulence from my screen)

The integral sunglasses are a bit flimsy and prone to vibration above 30mph when the clear visor is open (again this may be the KTM screen height).

In general this is the best helmet I have owned, that is taking into account comfort, noise, weatherproofing and physical size (fits in topbox).

Previous helmets were N103, noisy, same water leak problem, very loose visor, better sunglasses than C3.

Arai Tour X2, Comfortable altough a bit draughty under the chin, physically very large (no topbox fit), suffers same visor leak in heavy rain, no sunglasses but the visor is a bonus.

It pretty much stays open up to about 30-40mph by which point I would be shutting it anyway.

Just to update,helmet fully sorted and fuctioning correctly now.Oxford were useless im afraid.sent lid back after 2 weeks exactly the same.Schuberth sent modified parts to me directly.good service from them.
