I need a new helmet and intend to use it for long distance touring in warmer climates and occasional rough-road/off-road use.

I've looked at Motocross type touring helmets but I want to see the country I pass through as openly as possible ... and won't those peaks just create wind noise?

The Schuberth J1 catches my eye for its all-round visibility, in-build sun visor and relative quietness. While my off-road experience will only begin this month in Wales with BMW, I guess that muddy off-road conditions may be an issue for such a large visor but perhaps the visor up and the optional less dense sun visor would be sufficient for occasional use?

Any thoughts on the J1 and what helmet would you recommend for the above?
Thanks.

It's a great helmet, very quite.

The visor is very good however I'd only use mine for gentle off road use as it could easily be damaged.

The sun visor is not really an option.

It's a great helmet an as you're new to the dirt I'd go for it

great touring helmet. I also used mine on the BMW off road course with no probs. but I'm sure the chin bar is not as secure as a proper off road lid. It's also nice and airy when it's hot.

Yep. Kept my delicate bonce intact more than once. Vents work well with the visor down too. Sun visor is useless though.
