Unless, any of you esteemed cadres of the wheel can persuade me that I am wasting my money. I use my 1150Gs for humping my work gear around London and the M25. I will go for 2k mile tour this summer - might even end up in Slovenia.

Found a guy in Westerham, Kent who is selling new ones for £275 - will visit him tomorrow (Friday). They often retail @ £375. Sumfink wrong ere ?

PS Thanks for all the tips on Scotchlite chevrons ect.

Open face? You're not too keen on your looks then? One small stone or even a large insect can do some pretty impressive damage.

Think again I say.

Cheers

They J1 comes with a tubular metal chin bar which, together with the large visor, do a pretty good job of keeping your face tarmac free. Not as protective as a full face or flip up lid for sure - but you've got to make a compromise for the weather somwhere dont you think?

Also, I feel what you lose out on safety you gain in peripheral vision and comfort, which do lead back into safety.

It would be interesting, though thorougly morbid, to see if information is available on how many bike accidents resulted in facial injuries vs limbs.

The shop in Westerham is a little gold mine, the bloke there is very helpful. I bought an S1 there last year for £100 off as well. Nice roads nearby too, though oddly I seem to recall they are located on some kind of zoo/farm..?

It does come with a tubular chin bar, but it's plastic not metal.

It's a pretty nice helmet. It's very quiet and the sun visor is handy, and the chin bar gives a bit more of a sense of security than a normal open face. I bought mine for commuting to work and back because of the flip-down sun visor since during a lot of the year I have to leave home just before dawn when it's dark and then get hit in the eyes by the rising sun, and I don't want to stop to put on sunglasses.

However I can only use it for short trips because although it feels very comfortable when I put it on, after about an hour it starts to give me blinding headaches due to pressure on the forehead. I guess I just don't have a Schuberth-shaped head (in comparison my aging Shoei X-Spirit is comfortable all day long), but to anyone who tries on a J1 I'd recommend you leave it on a good long while in the shop to see if you get the same problem.

Guys do you have the contact details for this shop in Westerham ?????
Sounds good !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My system was like that. A quick skim round the forehead (the leather just lifts up and sticks back again) with a blade knife and all was well, and has been for 1,000s of miles now. :thumb
