Schuberth J1

A mate of mine bought one last year to use on his tiger 955 and thinks it is excellent, only fly in the ointment is that the visor is easily scratched and costs £65 plus to replace.

Looking at the F1 qualifying today and noticed that some of the Williams (I think) pit crew were wearing them - team colours with a white chin bar.

Personally, I use an Arai SZ/F for pootling around town in the summer - great visability, cheaper than the J1 etc.

Myself & my riding buddy both have J1's, as well as many other helmets. We both think that it is a great helmet. It has all the benefits of an open face helmet but with a bit of extra safety. It's also very quiet.
Only downside is fitting coms. it's quite difficult. I haven't noticed that the visor scratches any more than others. A small plastic lug on the visor ratchet system is quite fragile (I have broken mine once).
They are great for touring as looking at maps, drinking etc. is easy.

I have been using a J1 for the last 12 months and find it brilliant. I get very Claustrophobic in a full face and it really works for me. I also find that peripheral vision is much better. It is also a very quiet helmet.

I look after it like a baby as it minds my head so the scrating has'nt been a problem. I ride a 06 GS 1200 with the GSA screen.

Forgot to mention that I mount the bluetooth headset on the chin bar and it works very well. It would be difficult if not impossible to mount it anywhere else without some type of surgery

Great helmet as Rod mentioned the lug is fragile ...

Great in the wet visor doesn't mist up ...

I have autocom fitted which i found easy the cheek pads just pull out...

The new importers are Oxford products so you can get spares from most bike shops...

I find myself wearing it all year round :thumb2

You too can look as cool as this :augie If you change your bike as well :D

Forgot to mention that the sun visor is/was quite useful, but on all my helmets now I put about 5cm of matt black electrical tape VERY neatly across the top of the visor. This totally blocks out the sun and literally transforms riding in low sun or on bright summer days. There is no down side to this mod, if done well it almost looks stock. The narrow tape can be curved vert neatly to the shape of the visor.
This mod by far exceeds the usefulness of the drop down tinted visor.

Yep, me too, I've had a piece of black tape across the top of my visor for a few years now (Arai SZ), what with the tape and a lightly tinted visor, I don't even need sunglasses riding around northern Spain :thumb

Can't talk any of my mates in to trying it :nenau
