Schuberth JI helmet

I'd also be interested in knowing what they are like - are they as quiet as claimed and do they give unrestricted breathing.

They certainly look a good idea

Had one for the past 18 months or so.

Quieter than a Tour-X, comfier than a Roof Boxer.
You can ride along with the visor up with no problems at 70mph if you want.
Vents work well.
Visibility is excellent (natch)
Doesn't mist up, even in the hissing rain
Visor down it's remarkably draught free.
Placcie chin guard is a bit of a gimmick.
Would I buy another? Oh yes. :thumb2

Why do you say that about the guard - do you think it will not help in a face down fall?

So what BS or Euro std does it comply to? Compare say to an open face or full face lid?

Maybe, but it's just a bit of 8mm dia plastic - not as good as a full face helmet, obviously.

Dunno. Just had a look and there are no stickers on it at all. :D

The homepage says

Weight & StandardWeight: 1.420 Grammes of pure performance including sun visor

Standard: ECE-R 22.05

The J1 conforms to the ECE-R 22.05 standard. This test standard guarantees conformity to defined safety standards in respect of impact absorption, penetration resistance, lateral rigidity, retention system and field of vision. The approval guarantees that you have approval for all the countries which recognise the ECE standard.

Not sure what that means though.

It also says

Chin guard hoopThe J1 is unique. The freedom of the jet helmet is still there but PREMIUM SAFETY is added.

The chin guard hoop makes all the difference - although barely noticeable, it protects the rider according to the same principle as a full-face helmet.

If required, the hoop can be removed at any time by pressing the button on the side.

If I could find somewhere local to try one on I'd be tempted - if the thing felt right of course.

If you pop along to the next northwest meet at windmill Knutsford you can have a look at my J1 i use it all year round really pleased with it :thumb2
If you do buy one order a spare visor as the new importers Oxford are shite been waiting three weeks for new visor....:(

Had mine a month or so I agree with everything DH says except I thought the chin bar was more than plastic... it's supposed to be some high tech stuff designed to do a job.

I find that you need to unclip one side of the bar to take the helmet of... which is easy

Have used mine as my main helmet for the past 18 months. Only problem was forgetting to fit the chin bar back on after a coffee stop. Replacement was expensive. Excellent visibility, next to no misting up. Very comfortable to wear with large recesses for ears, which enables me to velcro in a couple of in helmet spealers without difficulty. Only real problem in very heavy rain, drops can bounce up off the tank, and get on the inside of the visor. Wouldn't wear one off road as I don't think the plastic chin bar will do a great deal in a chin down impact, but I do prefer open face helmets, and will accept the extra risk on the road.

Infinity stock them. I tried one when I returned my C2 and I thought it was very good but a bit too pricey. On the plus side it had room to accomodate my luxurious face fur (since strimmed down) but SWMBO wasn't overly happy with the chin bar protection.

Ended up with an XR-1000 which is great :thumb2
