I've had the above mentioned for about three weeks / 1,000 miles and I have to say that it is a great lid. I was a bit nervous about my selection having been an Arai wearer for the last twenty years or so but I'm very impressed with the fit, comfort and especially the noise level which is significantly less than that of an Arai :thumb I was looking for a flip front which started me off looking at the Schuberth range but the spotted the S1 and thought I'd give it a go - I know it's not a flip but I didn't like them once I tried them . . . . . .

. . . . . . . and I gave up the fags three years ago so don't really need one :D

a quieter world THAN before

I agree with you. As a fellow long-time Arai user the S1 pro took a bit of getting used to because although it's still a proper fit, it's nowhere near as snug as an Arai.

However it's a much better road helmet, very quiet at speed, the drop-down sun visor is brilliant and the vents are easy to operate even in winter gloves.

The only downside is the price, but H-G are running a 20% off helmets offer at the moment.

I've just picked one up in black (well, they are getting one from another branch in a few days) from Heine Gericke for 249 smackers rather than the ticket price of £470. OK, its hugely expensive at £470 but at £249 it seems a steal. Given the comments above I'm hoping its a wise choice. I'm normally a 58/59 in Shoei's world but given most advice is these are a bit small I went for 60/61 for the S1. Had a bad experience a few years back with bad headaches with a 58/59 C2 that I sold within a week.

It's a lovely lid.

The standard pinlock is the new type that fills the HUGE visor competely so visibility is greatly improved. So far so good.

Well, there is a turn up for th ebook. I have an S1 and have had it for a couple of years now, put something like 80,000 miles behind it on my head....I can't hear myself think in the damn thing. My Arai Giga (original one, a la Steve Spray and Trevor Nation, it was one exactlky the same as theirs' because I did some work fo rPhoenix then:augie) I still have it and use it. My Arai is quieter than my Schuey, but th eSchuey has other plusses - the sunvisor is brilliant and the main reason I got it. Ventilation isn't very good in the rain though.

Funny old world. Maybe it is my ears that need changing.:D

Had my S1 pro for a year now and still think its a great helmet and the quietest lid I have ever owned. It should be law that all helmets have built in sunglasses as well, they just work so well.

Sadly my enthusiasm for the Schuberth was short lived as the visor and vents leaked like a sieve, leading to a very wet head on my way back from Scotland. It went back to Oxford Products (UK Importer) via Hein Gericke to be sorted but to no avail so I ended up with a refund. I then bought an Arai Viper GT which although not as quiet as the Schuberth hasn't leaked in the 10,000 miles I've so far used it for.

I`ve had my S1 for just over a year too, £185 at the bike show :thumb2 4500miles through europe last year and a bit of winter riding and apart from getting a cold bit on the back of my neck I think its an excellent lid :thumb

What did you do to get that deal?

I'd get one myself at that price (I've just had my S1 stolen, so stepping up to the Pro makes sense), but I've not seen any discounted prices offered. Did you get it thrown in cheaper with other kit, have some sort of voucher, or did you just ask what was their best price, and haggle them down to that level?

If so, which branch?

I bought mine from the Portsmouth Branch. They didn't have colour I wanted in the size I needed. So I paid for one that they had sent over from another store. It was the advertised discount price. You can try and haggle some more I guess, but I was just pleased to get it so cheap.

For some reason the website does not list this price at all; it still has the S1 Pro at £450.

Is it definitely the S1 Pro that is reduced, rather than the S1?

I'll still head over and ask about it, but they were £450 ten days ago when I was in, and I can't see this reduced price anywhere.

Don't get the S1 and S1 Pro mixed up (I have both); the S1 Pro has much better ventilation and a standard Pinlock. The older S1 is still a very quiet and well made lid, but is poorly ventilated, so starts to mist up once the standard anti-fog coating starts peeling and is very stuffy in hot weather.

Most of the really cheap deals are on S1's - deals on S1 Pro's are rarely below £350. Got mine for £250 from Sound Distribution on ebay in October, even though their website was still flogging them for £450 :D

In the hot weather last year in europe I had the visor up and either the dark visor down or sunnies on. I wish the chin guard was removable for warm weather though.

I got the S1 Pro for £249 from HG in black. The visor is huge (a good thing) and the pinlock covers the entire visor (a very good thing) like the new types that are coming out.

BigLee, I got an extra chin guard to fit included in the box which is doing it's job nicely during the winter but I'll remove it in the warmer months. Is this what you're referring to?

I ended up getting a C3 from the show today, for £320, which I think is a good price.

Click on the helmet you want as if you were going to order it and the price changes to 249... I also got a silver one in size L a few weeks ago.. the S1 Pro.

Thanks. I wonder why they are doing it that way.

Anyway, I bought a C3 in the end, from the show today. It was more expensive than the S1 Pro, at £320, but I'm fine having paid a bit more for the flip-front.
