I bought a Schuberth S1 6 weeks ago. The first time I wore it in the rain, the coating started to peel off the inside of the visor.

The shop I got it from replaced it last week. It rained on Monday and on Tuesday the coating was peeling off.

Anyone else having the same problems?

visor

the coating started peeling two days after i bought it, had done about a 100 miles, was going to see if I could get any joy at NEC if schuberth a there ?,

Dont think I would buy the same again, bit dissapointed really !

Ah well you dont know till you try.

I've always said it, SCHUBERTH make rubbish lids which are not worth the price (I paid for one)
Bad luck... Get a Shoei they seem to know what they're doing

Got a Shoei RXR. Got a Shoei RAID. Faced with a choice of either tomorrow or a S1 with a dodgy visor I know what I will wear.
Thanks for the "advice" anyway.

Okay. Good, I am not alone at least. John Harris Motorcycles (where I bought the helmet) have sent my first one off to Schuberth for analysis. They have asked me to come in and they will give me another (off stock helmets because they have no spares as yet) and send my second one off for analysis.
Can't fault the dealer for their response, and your reply suggests it is not a problem caused by some bizarre one off problem on my helmet.
Thanks for responding.

David,

although I've never owned an S1, the minor problems I've had with 3 Concepts & 1 System 4 (actually, this totals one lever breaking & one defective black visor), have been fixed by return of post by their importers:

Tran Am Ltd
William House, Gore Road
New Milton
Hampshire
BH25 6RJ

01425 620580

Schuberth helmets come with a 3 year guarantee and have been, in my limited experience of problems with the helmets, an excellent company to deal with.

Richie's experience of mine with Shoei & Schuberth is identical, if you swap the words 'Schuberth' and 'Shoei' in his post :D

It certainly sounds like there is a design/manufacture problem with the visor of the S1 - a call to Tran Am might be worthwhile to see if it's a 'bad batch' problem or more serious....

Mike:) (not associated with Schuberth, other than as a very satisfied customer;))

I also sent my Schuberth back to Germany where they adjusted it and gave me a new visor. (They admitted to fogging problems). The result was that the helmet still fogs up as soon as it rains or is cold (all the time apart from 4 months) I ride all year round and IMHO with my old Shoei lids which cost less money I have zero fogging with a fog city installed (as with the Schuberth).
Lastly I do admit that all the people I ask who wear a Schuberth have no problems with it. Also recently I rode a Ducati Monster for a couple of hours. No fairing of course, the helmet worked fine so the problem seems to be a mixture of me and my bike.
Is there anybody out there with the same problem as me or have I just got a duff lid....

No. I've got a concept and while I've not had the problem of the visor peeling or anything I do get the problem of fogging (alothugh a fog city shield fixes that).

I'm with Mike O (so the rumours are true :)),

Always had Shoei's before and now Schubie's and you can swap the experiences that Ritchie and I have had around.

Liked the Shoei's but always had to have a Fog City fitted. Was going to get myself an S1 as a full-face second helmet as I love the sun visor but I'm skint and without work. Hopefully by the time I'm back in work David will have worked his way through the duff batch of visors. :thumb

Went into a shop today to buy a jacket, met Tranam salesman. He said the visor problem I have been experiencing is a known problem from a dodgy batch. Apparently now sorted. All visors imported since Feb are ok. Trouble is, the dealer I got the helmet from has only those visors on his helmet stock (apparently all faulty) so I guess I'll just have to do as Judge asks and work my way through the whole lot....

Sorry to bring this up again but I recently bought a Schuberth S1 and had the visor delamination problem mentioned above. Infinity in Holborn (drove to my work !!! and) gave me a new one which they've been assured fixes the problem. 2 days in the rain and no problems thus far. Infinity said they sold 5 S1s recently and all delaminated!!

All a bit poor for £350.

Other than that the helmet is ok. I wouldn't say it's excellent. The 'comfort' chin strap is not comfortable and it has a slight high frequency buffeting at motorway speeds which my old Arai did not. Tobinators may sort this. The helmet is quieter than my Arai with the visor shut but is noisy when cracked open even slighty.

On the plus side the head feels very cosy without feeling hot because the vents work well (unlike the Arai) and the sun visor is superb. Why can't more other manufacturers do this?

Don't think I'd have bought it if I'd had a test ride (or certainly would have tried others).

HHmmmmmmmmm..........I say, HHHmmmmmmmmMMMmmm

Merchantable quality

Whilst I'm no lawyer, I would have thought that motorcycle helment that cannot cope with rain is not of Merchantable quality, so you should look to get your money back if they can't fix it.

I am a lawyer and you must be right. I will go down that route if the visor delaminates again.

I have the carbon Schuberth and the new Carbon BMW helmet. The schuberth visor was peeling straight away and was replaced. No problems with peeling on the replacement. However, both helmets fog up quickly unless I leave the visors open quarter inch. My Schuberth Concepts never gave any problems with fogging or peeling.
