Given that I have a 18 mile commute basically filtering in traffic should I be sticking to a 125cc scoot or is it worth getting something larger?

I don't plan on doing any long rides, its just for going to work and the odd trip into London primarily.

cheers

I'd ask what speed limits you would hit, also not all 125's are equal in terms of power (probably from about 8bhp to 13bhp). I have a 2012 Honda SH125i which is fine for 30/40 limits on my commute to work, but I'd get slightly frustrated if I was hitting 60/70 limits on the 125 as the top whack on it is about 60ish. I did use it to go to the NEC bike show last year (Nottingham to Birmingham, which is about 110 miles including return), and whilst it was OK, it was a little tedious, but as I wasn't rushing it was fine.

Let us know what you decide !

(Have we got a scooter section here...)

Its basically 40mph all the way into London, except for about a mile at 50ish or so. As long as my job doesn't move to Milton Keynes I should be fine.

I did sit on a vespa at work, but felt very weird. I am going to try the sh125i on Friday although the dealer is keen for me to try a sh300i, which is a lot more money and my budget is around £1200 tops

Also the SH300i is much heavier, the joy of the SH125i is the light weight. The engine changed shortly after mine (2013?) on the 125 to be more efficient but slightly less powerful - think they aligned it with the PCX scooter (so actually older is faster).

The SH125i is a brilliant scooter, and the big wheels are (supposedly) much better than a little wheel scooter (as much as I really fancied a 2stroke Vespa PX). The most popular scooter in Italy is not a vespa, its the SH125/300.

Given your description of the roads, the 125i would be perfect. It zips up to 40/50 quite nicely. The handling on these is quite surprising too, really confidence inspiring. And it has a curry hook !!

Oh the screen and hand guards make it wonderful in the wet/cold.

Can you spot it in the NEC car park....

I am doing a test ride on Friday but must confess really fancy a bigger bike, as its my only motorised two wheeler

Update

Went into the dealer to try a sh 125 and ended up riding a grom, which was quite a surprise

A grom well done that man, think about biking it should be fun. Not everyone wants to be a Dunlop clone. A grom a nice day a tootle to the pub PLUS all the questions you will be asked, luvun it.
