With apologies to Alte Wolf!!

Just thought I’d Share a wee trip to Scotland I had at the weekend with a couple of friends. Decided on Tuesday after looking at the long range forecast and off we went on Saturday. Belfast to Stranrear on the HSS at 7.40, we road up to Gourock via Turnberry and the “Electric Brae” a nice wee detour instead of heading straight up the A77.

Gourock to Hunters Quay ferry.

Went up through Strachur and Invarary and Down to Lochgiliped, before heading North toward Oban.

Stopped in this wee place for a cuppa off the main road from Connel to Ballachulish.

Off then to the Coran Ferry and over to Argour.

Then round to the Mallaig road Corpach and up to Spean Bridge via Gairlochy. Then up the fantastic Invergarry to Kyle of Lochalsh road to Stay in Dornie.

Obligatory Silhouette of Eilean Donan Castle

On Sunday we headed off bright and Early for the North Coast. I suppose it is compulsory to go over Bealach Na Ba and down to Applecross. Every time we are up there we do the most dangerous thing of the whole trip. An engine off free wheel race down the single tracker from the top of the Bealach to the Junction beside the pub at the bottom. Takes some stupidity to try not to brake round the numerous tight turns. And you can freewheel 6miles J. For the record the K1200S won this time.

And of Skye from the Beach at Applecross and the viewpoint on the road to Shieldag

Then round to Sheildag an off to Kinlochawe and Gairloch stopping above Dundonnel for a few photos,
P1000905.JPG

Then off to Ullapool for a bite of Lunch. This thing was moored in the Harbour.

P1000907.JPG

Then off up the best biking road in the Country? Ullapool to Ledmore and then on to Kylesku and Rhiconich. We stopped at Smoo Caves at Durness and I tried to take a few photos of the nesting Fulmars without getting vomited on. (Which they do to protect their nests)

Then off round the Kyle of Tongue and Altnaharra before heading to Lairg for Petrol. They’d run out!!! So it was an anxious 31 miles to Evanton for some Juice, before heading for Achnasheen, Loch Carron and back to Dornie. No Stops for Photos and a 400+ mile day much of it on single trackers.

Monday dawned bright again. Off to Skye!! This was to be a red letter day as it’s the first time I have ever been on Skye (IN 20 YEARS) when it hasn’t rained on me at some point!!. The mist was rolling over Sgurr Beag (I think) on the road to Portree.

Ben Lee? Doing an impersonation of a volcano.

Up to Dunvegan Castle and it looked like it was going to rain……but it didn’t. Took a walk out to the Coral Beach.

We then rode round to Uig. The ferry to Lewis was just leaving. Never been there must do that some day.

Photo of the ferry leaving big bike in the way.

We road round the single track road on the north of the Island and took a photo of the mountains. Never seen Quirang before!! Though I’ve passed it a few times!

P1010017.JPG

Stopped at the cliffs near Staffin and looked at the stunning views of Raasay and the mainland.

P1010028.JPG

Before leaving the Island we took a run down to the Glenleg ferry which appears to be no more!!. Wonder how long the pub beside the lighthouse will last. Some stunning views from the wee single tracker down to the ferry.

We finished the day off with a run up from the Kyle to Invermoriston Back to Invergarry and back to Dornie…..just for the hell of it!!

Tuesday was to be the warmist day of the visit. I took the liners out of my riding suit and we headed up toward Invergarry. Stopped at the top and Loch Clunie was doing its best to act as a mirror. Then we stopped at the view point to take a photo of Loch Garry.

P1010050.JPG

Then it was on to Speanbridge and back down to Corpach via Gairlochy. We had a blast along the stunning Mailaig road the section from Glenfinnan to Lochihort is very technical and the GS equited itself well compared to the GSXR1000 and K1200s.

Stopped just past Lochailort and took a few pics overlooking the sound of Arisaig.
P1010058.JPG

We travelled round Moidart via Strontian and finished at Ardgour to get the Corran Ferry. 1300 miles worth of dead bugs!!
P1010065.JPG

Then Through Connel toward Dalmally turning off on the A819 down to Invarary. From here through Stachur and on down to Dunoon.

The Lighthouse on Cloch Rd

We felt the need for some sustenance and stopped for Chips at Girvan. The gulls seemed partial to the chips as well!

Cant wait now till 27th June and I'm off to Europe for 2 weeks :beerjug:

Yes I've got used to the comfort. She behaved beautifully.....just me being paranoid!! It stopped using engine oil as well!! Of course I carried a litre of engine oil and gear oil Just in case. :mmmm :D

Ps Have fun on the europe trip. Hope you got the tyre issue sorted. The K1200s was cracker on the fast roads very comfy and stable. Paul put a new rear boot on it on Friday.........it was down to the wear bars when we reached Stranrear on Tuesday   :D

Help ma Boab!

Sunshine for 4 days in Scotland... . Done that run a few times masel, but never had a camera with me. Brilliant photos, and good write up too. Well done that man. Makes me want to get home for a wee while again. I feel all homesick now...I'll have to go have a glass of wine by the pool to cheer myself up. :thumb

Fantasic report :D . Did Scotland again this year myself and got caught in the gale force winds going over to Skye and through Glen Coe. Sh*t my knickers going over Ranoch Moor it was blowing us across the road and some toss*r had over filled his diesal motor :nono , 70 mph winds, pi**ing down and diesel all over the road all character building stuff i can tell you  . But what a great place to ride, trying to talk my mates into a long weekend soon.
thanks again for the report really enjoyed reading it. ORCA :clap :clap
