When
A weekend in about two week’s time.
Where
Top of Scotland on some of the most beautiful scenic routes in the world. A popular tourist route during summer for its magnificent scenery but light traffic this time of year, which is nice. Route recommended by Bike magazine.
Highlights include the Doroch Firth, B9176 “Mountain Circuit”, Ardvrech ruins and Ullapool sea town ‘the most romantic town in Scotland’.
What
Scotland. Bikes. Scenery. Beer. Barbie. Camping or Hotel (as yet undecided).
Camping version:
We will stop a little after Tongue which is at one of the highest points in Scotland. With nothing around we will pitch a camp site somewhere discreet just off the road and try to set up a camp fire.
May do a bit of “camel grass” off-roading in prep for entry into the Dakar next year.
It will be optional, accessible for all tyres and abilities and will be based around the camp site. It will also be after the Barbie (because we’ll be tired and hungry from the days riding) so if you intend on getting sloshed during the Barbie you might run into problems.
Hotel version:
The Ben Loyal Hotel, Tongue, is cheap and can accommodate many visitors. We can have a good meal, try out a few of the pubs and check out Tongue.
Who
All GS and non GS riders welcome. All ages, all groups. This is a scenic weekend. You are expected to be self-sufficient unless agreed with others.
Weather
Mild but a little too cold for leathers. 5-10 degrees expected. Comfortable really.
Cost
Approx £100 for petrol there and back from Newcastle. A bit more for the extras you’ll need to bring (see below).
Inventory
Your bike in a reasonable condition.
A small medical kit.
Camping Version:
Barbie: disposable barbeque, foods, beer/spirits (as you wish). 3 litre water (as you wish). Cutlery/plates etc.
Sleeping bag (and roll-mat/inflatable recommended).

Distance
1286Km from Newcastle but meeting people on the way up to Conan Bridge. A GPS route is available.
